HI8 GREAT
EFFICIENCY
The American people have cause
for thankfulness that President Wil
son in his patience and forbearance
has so well guided the destiny of our
own country. The situation has been
trying ? the problem intricate ? yet
with a nation of people standing with
him the wisdom and sagacity of each
word or movement is now recalled
with unstinted praise. T he govern
ment stands, the people rule and the
manhood of President Wilson has
been brought out In its great effic
iency as the wise and safe leader of
the doctrines of his people; his wis
dom and -greatness, his prudence and
discretion will go sounding down the
ages in recorded history.

CONSERVATION
OF WATER
Water is the crying need of Nevada
yet that is no reason why the people
of the state should sit back and wait
for the government of the United
States to conserve it for them. They
should do it themselves or through
the help of their legislature.
There are scores Of valleys in the
state that are referred to as arid, sim
ply because no one has ever made the
attempt to make them produce. Yet
they grow the white sage, which is
regarded, aB the highest test of soil
fertility, in great profusion, and where
white sage grows is regarded as evi
dence that water abounds somewhere
around, says the Carson Appeal.
But the real trouble is, Nevadans
have never tried to develop these
lands or conserve their water. And
In many places where they have wa
ter they make tfie claim that there
is not enough for material purposes.
Carson, or Eagle valley, is pne of
these places, yet around it circles an
artesian and surface water belt, un
known as to extent, yet as far as de
veloped, capable of furnishing water
sufficient to ? irrigate thousands of
acres, but what is secured is nearly
all allowd to go to waste. The truth
is that more water is waBted in this
and other valleys of the state than
used in many of the irrigation dis
tricts of California. But there the
water is conserved and conserved
right.

8T0CK FEEDING POINT
Stock is commencing to come Into
the valley for feeding. It will not be
long now until herds of cattle and
bands of sheep will be everywhere
hereabouts, If the stockmen fulfill
their promises. The Williams estate
received 17 double decked cars of
sheep Monday from the Elko ranges
and more are to come. $ome seven
thousand sheep belonging to the es
tate are already here. The Nevada
Packing company, which contracted
with local farmers for sugar beets
again thlf year, to be used for feed
ing purposes, also has a part of its
sheep in the valley. ? Fallon Standard.
