Mrs. Fitzgerald Is admir able In her llnfc of work and Mrs. Spier (nee Mrs. Fechter-Gllbert) is one of our best soprano singers. Mr. Spier is the tenor this year of the Dwight Place choir, and Is giving much satisfaction. Mr. and Mrs. Spier, who have been re- ' siding on Lawrence street, have re moved to the upper part of the city near Dwight Place church. AT EAST HAVEN TOWN HALL. An elaborate entertainment will be given at the town hall. East Haven, Wednesday evening, December 2. Mr. Post of New Haven will sing. Little Miss Hart will recite. There will be Violin and concert solos by Mr. Lon Smith, Mrs. Ballou and Miss Emmie Street, and the burlesque pantomime of "Cinderella" will be given by twelve young ladies and gentlemen. Their costumes will be brilliant and elabo rate. The little Miss Craigs will dance the "Highland Fling" In costume. The entertainment will close with a strik ing tableau of "The Sleeping Beauty." Saltonstall electric cars pass the door of the hall. AT PLYMOUTH CHURCH. At Plymouth church this season another series of entertainments will be given surpassing in interest even the church's very successful course of last Sear. There will be five events, the first occurring to-morrew night at Plymouth house, and the be given by the Tyrolean Troubadours, assisted by Mr. Elmer P. Ransom. The Trouba dours will appear in their national cos tume. On December 30 Miss Marlon Sterns of Springfield, Mass., will give readings, and Miss Rebecca Wilder Holmes, of New York, violinist, will . play. January 27 Is the date for the third entertainment In the course, when a varied program of music will be given under the direction of the organist, Mr. Harry L. Cooke. Mrs. Hannibal A. Williams, the dis tinguished Shakespearian interpreter will read "The Midsummer Night's Dream" at the fourth entertainment, February 17. Mr. Cooke will play for Mrs. Williams, as she has arranged the play to be recited with Mendelssohn's music. Mrs. Williams is the only wo man in America who gives the plays of Shakespeare from memory. The Dessauer-Troostwyk trio will make up the program for the fifth en tertainment, March 10. IN CHRIST CHURCH, . An organ recital will be given In Christ church on Tuesday, December 8, by Prof. W. H. Parker, assisted by Mr. Isador Troostwyk, concert master of the New Haven Symphony orchestra; Rev. Clarence W. Bispham, of Trinity church, and Mr. Charles H. Mann. The program will be one of unusual Interest. Prof. Parker 'will play several solo numbers; Prof. Park er and Mr. Troostwyk will play a sona ta forviolin and organ by Tartini, com posed in the sixteenth century, and heard here for the first time. Mr. Troostwyk will also play the air on the G string for violin, Prof. Parker play ing the organ part Mr. Bispham will sing twice and Mr. Mann will be on the program for one or two solo num bers.. This will be the formal using of the fine new organ at Christ church. AT EPWORTH M. E. CHURCH. Dr. E. L. Thorpe is to read at ;Ep worth church December 2. Dr. Thorpe has won a very enviable reputation as a reader. He is equally "at home" with the herofo, dramatic and humor ous. He exhibits a rare sense of "in terpretatlon" In all his renderings, whether the selection be from William Shakespeare or Mark Twain. A large attendance is indicated. FOR BENEVOLENT WORK. A reception and Christmas sale is to be given at the home of Mrs. George Powning at 104 Sherman avenue, Fri day, the 4th, and the sale will continue throughout the afternoon and evening. The ladies benevolent society of Dwight Place church has the affair in charge, and preparations for a pleas ant social event, as well as profitable 6ale, are being vigorously made. Any one desiring to secure pretty gifts for Christmas are invited to attend irre spective of whether they attend the Dwight Place church or some otner. DEATH OF PROFESSOR STICKNEY Hartford, Nov. 30. A dispatch to family friends in this city received to day says that Professor Austin Stick ney, formerly a professor at Trinity college, died In New York to-day. He ' was sixty-four years of age. State Teachers' Association's Annual Meetings. Hartford, Nov. 30. There was an in teresting meeting at the state capitol to-day to consider plans for changing the annuals of the State Teachers' as sociation. At present the meetings are held on Fridry towards the middle of October. It was decided to recommend that the annual meetings of the asso ciation be held on Lincoln's day, or the Friday after Thanksgiving. Other changes will be proposed, reducing the numbers in attendance. Last October there were 2.000 teachers at the meet ing In New Haven.
