SCHROEDEE'S FOR CASH. $6.40 Per Ton. 55 Railroad Are Boston Concern Bids $450,728.32 City's Gain 8.08 per Share Scranton Street School and Other Matter Before the Board of Finance. At the regular weekly meeting of the board of finance, held in city hall at 1 o'clock yesterday afternoon, the bids for the bonding of the city were open ed. There were present representatives from various banking houses, not only of this city but of New York and Bos ton. Some time ago, as stated in this paper at the time, the controller was authorized to issue funding, bridge and sewer bonds to the extent of $448,000, and the bids for the Issuance of these bonds were the ones opened yesterday. When the controller started to open the bids he announced that there were thirteen bids in all, and then the board smiled. The highest bid was S450.728.32, and It was a joint bid made by Blake Brothers of Boston and Rhoades & Co. of New York. This bid was accepted. By the acceptance of this bid the city realizes a net gain on each share of $6.09, or a total profit of $2,728.32 on the total issue, the par value being $1,000 a share. All the bids were quite close and a good illustration of this is the fact that the highest bid was $450,728. 22, while the lowest bid waa $419,120.00. a total difference of only $1,608-22 in the whole thirteen bids. Attorney James Wheeler of the board of education and Dennis Maloney, the school building Inspector, appeared be fore the board of finance. Mr. Wheeler stated that in building the foundations of the new Scranton street school in the Webster district it wa3 found thai the foundation would have to be strength ened more than was at first expected and that Contractor Hogun had sent in an additional bill of $1,224.15 for this work. The board has transferred $800, which was all that it had for printing, to wards this sum, and that now there was not one cent to be used for the necessary printing which must be done immediately. The rest of Mr. Hogan's bill can remain until the next estimates are made out, it was announced by Mr. Wheeler, but the printing must be done at once. The board of finance, there fore, authorized the board of education to transfer $800 from special expenses of Scranton street school to printing. The controller announced that this really means that the deficiency will hive to ibe met in next year's estimates for the additional $1,224.15. Mr. Frederick made a motion that on and after October 5 the meetings of the board of finance shall be held at 7:15 o'clock in the evening instead of in the afternoon, and this motion was carried. The matter of providing non-combustible vaults for the city's records was again tabled. FRESHMEN CLASS RECEPTION THIS EVENING.
