Palisade
All those who were fortunate
enough to be present at the musicale
and old-fashioned dance given by the
Woman’s Club of Palisade on Novem
ber 14, will be pleased to know that
there are plans in the making for an
other social evening for the entertain
ment of club members and ,their
families.
Mrs. John Loesche, chairman of the
music committee, has again secured
as one of the entertainers that gen
tleman of humoristic proclivities, Guy
Hunter, R. A., B. A., who afforded so
much amusement with his songs,
What we mean by
"quiet operation”
THE Electrol Automatic
Oil Burner is quiet. It
does not develop any of the
noises generally associated with
oil burners.
In designing the new Model T
Electrol, one of the funda
mental requirements which
was stipulated to our engineers
was that it must not be noisy—
that it must not produce noises
which would be audible up
stairs when the burner goes on.
Quiet operation has been
achieved. The Electrol prin
ciple of combustion employs
low air velocity which means
that there is no rush of air and
unnecessary roaring of the
flames in the furnace. The
Electrol runs with no more
noise than the gentle purr of
an electric fan.
Quiet operation is just one of
the many unusual features
which you will be enthusiastic
about. In fact, you will find
that with its automatic elec
tric ignition and 8-day clock
thermostat control, the Electrol
Automatic Oil Burner will
give you as near a perfect heat
ing system as has yet been de
vised. Itentirely operates itself,
maintaining without a notice
able variation an even, com
fortable temperature.
Let us demonstrate the new
Model T Electrol to you. Drop
into our display room at any
time or telephone any in
formation you wish. .

the previous social affair. Mr. John
Loesche also will again contribute to
the pleasures of the evening with his
masterful violin solos, and there will
be other artists of note whose names
cannot be announced at this time.
As was the case upon the former
occasion, this affair will be decidedly
informal.
One of the most interesting fea

CHILD WELFARE LUN*CHEON
Great interest is being manifested
among club women and social work
ers of Bergen and Passaic counties in
the Child Welfare luncheon to be held
under the auspices of the Sixth Dis
trict Institutional Co-operation Com
mittee of the New Jersey State Fed
eration of Women’s Clubs at the Alex
ander Hamilton Hotel in Paterson, on
Wednesday, February 3, at 1 o’clock.
The chief speakers will be Mr. C. C.
Carstens, Director of the Child League
of America, and Dr. George K. Pratt,
Assistant Medical Director of the Na
tional Committee for Mental Hygiene.
REGULAR MEETING
The regular meeting of the Woman’s
Club of Cliffside Park will be held on
Thursday, February 4, at 3 o’clock, at
the home of Miss Marie Niehaus,
Grant avenue, Grantwood.
The usual period of business will be
followed by a special program of mu
sical and literary talent provided by
the club’s Literature, Art and Music
Department, which numbers some pro
fessional artists among its excellent
musical talent and a member who has
taken a story telling course.
A delightful program has been ar
ranged by Mrs. Manahan and the de
partment chairman, and a large at
tendance is anticipated which will in
clude some guests.
HOME ECONOMICS DEPARTMENT
The largely attended meeting of the
Home Economics Department of the
Cliffside Park Woman’s Club, on
Thursday, at the home of Mrs. Wil
liam Clark, included two special feat
ures, in the two speakers on the sub
ject of “Home Management.”
Mrs. Langston, one of the club mem
bers who has taken this course in
Columbia University, presented some
of her notes in regard to saving steps,
time and a low cost diet, which latter
seemed to be too low to meet with the
approval of her hearers, in its omis
sion of fruits and other healthful ne
cessities.
Mrs. Elizabeth Berdan, Home Dem
onstration Agent of Bergen County,
was then introduced and spoke along
similar lines, dwelling on the best
lighting and colors for kitchens,
heights for working tables and sinks,
saving steps and work.
In responses to her questions, she
declared several times that the group
before her were very up to date
women and was surprised to find how
many of the county courses in diet,
dress making, millinery, etc., had been
brought into our borough.
The Home Economics Department
is to provide the program for the
March club meeting and a speaker
will be invited, by the chairman, Mrs.
Burns, to address the club.
Final arrangements were made for
the great day of Thursday, February
18, in the Lawton Avenue School
when Mrs. Julian Heath is to talk,
and which will take the form of an
afternoon tea, at which informal
groups, after the talk, will have the
opportunity to chat over the tea cups
and ask questions of Mrs. Heath. All
the women’s organizations of this
town and the neighboring ones are
being invited to attend.
The chairman presented each mem
ber with their attendance rewards,
two booklets on domestic subjects,
and the whole afternoon was very en
joyable and profitable.
LITERATURE DEPARTMENT
Members of the Literature Depart
ment of the Cliffside Park Woman's
Club please take notice that the regu
lar meeting will take place Thursday,
February 11, at 1 o’clock, instead of
in the evening as tentatively planned.
U. C. T. WOMAN’S CLUB
The Woman’s Club of the United
Commercial Travelers, held a meet
ing on Friday at the home of Miss M.
C. Winferburn, who also had charge
of the luncheon which preceded the
meeting, and was an excellent one, at
tended by a number of guests.
In the absence of Miss Wright, the
president, Mrs. Dana presided and
Mrs. W. Clark acted as secretary pro
tem.
The club decided to take two tickets
for the Authors’ Matinee and present
ed them to the hostess and to the
president. The balance due from the
music studio fund was discussed and
plans for raising it. The members
voted to indorse Mrs. Hawse as a can
didate for the presidency of the State
Federation of Women’s Clubs, and
Mrs. Wooster for the vice presidency.
Guests who were present were Mrs.
S. W. McClave, Mrs. Edgar Fox, Mrs.
Kronenebitter, Mrs. George Brown,
Mrs. Schilling and Mrs. George Don
aldson, all of Edgewater Heights
Park; Mrs. William Clark and Mrs. J.
C. Vosburgh, of Grantwood. Members
present were, besides Miss Winter
burn and Mrs. W. S. B. Dana. Mrs, W.
J. McDonald, Mrs. J. Kenworthy, Mrs.
Eric Lehsten and Mrs. W. Metzler.
—In an interview given by Governor
Moore early this week in Trenton, he
expressed the opinion that the sale of
anthracite substitutes in bags at cost
to the poor of municipalities would go
a far way toward relieving distress.
The executive pointed out that Jersey
City had adopted such a plan with
good results.
