Year In Jail, $2,000 Fine, Penalty For Victor McLaughlin Geo. Holley, Married Man Of Paterson, Gets Year And A Half For Similar Offense Victor McLaughlin of Grantwood ■was fined $2,000 and sentenced to ele ven and a lialf months in jail by Judge McCarthy in the 2nd District Criminal Court in Hackensack on Wednesday as a penalty for his at tack on Ruth Walter, fifteen year old Grantwood schoolgirl, about a month ago. McLaughlin is a married man and well known in Grantwood. His wife is a school teacher and before her marriage to McLaughlin was Miss Carrie Reynolds. McLaughlin was charged with a stautatory offense by Ruth Walter after she was found in a semi-dazed condition in upper New York the morning after the attack is alleged to have taken place. George Holley, a married man of Paterson, was sentenced also on Wed nesday morning to a year and a half i in the State Prison in Trenton. He was found guilty of an offense similar i to McLaughlin’s having attacked a fif- j teen year old girl. Ninth Apartment House . Now Under Construction The 'Grantwood section of’Cliffside 'Park is rapidly becoming an apart-1 ' ment house area, the ninth multi-fam ily house within the past two years now being in course of construction, at Palisade and Columbia avenues. Two have been erected at Knox ave nue and the Palisade trolley line dur ing the summer, and another is well under way at the corner of Lafayette avenue and the Palisade trolley line. Another is nearly completed on Law ton avenue on the former Lawson es tate, and the foundation for the one ' at Columbia and Palisade avenues is completed. The following are the dates for the newly organized class in Parliamen tary Law which will include eighteen residents of Clilfsidc Park and as many in Palisade, it is expected and will be lei} by Mrs. William T. Ropes, former president of the State Federa tion of Womens’ Clubs, who is con sidered one of the best authorities on Parliamentary Law, and who also makes the class a most entertaining session, spoken of enthusiastically by other towns who have taken the course. The meeting's will be held mostly on the second Friday of the month, al ternately in Palisade and Cliifside Park, the opening meeting being Oct ober 15, lit the Palisade church, the se cond one on November 12, at the home of Mrs. Benda, 250 Clark terrace, Cliffside. The fee payable in advance is three, dollars to Women’s Club mem bers, four dollars to non-members, and! Mrs. Benda will be glad to receive tiiis before or on October 15, as that will be the date of the first payment to Mrs. Ropes.
