Mr. and Mrs. Fred Meyer and son
Herbert, of 753 Jefferson avenue, re
turned from a motor trip through
Montreal and Quebec to their sum
mer home at Beechwood, N. J. Thi
trip covered a period of two and one
half weeks.
Mrs. E. Manville, of Edgewatei
Heights Park, was hostess on Iasi
Saturday afternoon for a bridge
party, to fulfill her pledge as one of
the Epiphany Catholic Daughters foi
the “Sunshine Fund.”
Those present were Mrs. Broder
ick, Mrs. Schickling, Mrs. P. Brady
Mrs. J. Weigand, Miss Grace Acker
man, Mrs. W. Weller, Mrs. Solwede
Miss Hoefinger.
The first prize was awarded to Mrs,
Hoefinger, the second was won by
Mrs. Weigand and the booby prize
went to Mrs. Weller, and a very de
lightful afternoon was enjoyed.
Mr. George Blake, Sr., has been ill
for several weeks, but is recuperating
now and hopes to return to bis' edi
torial duties ki New York next Mon
day.
Mrs. W. S. B. Dana is home from
her summer cottage at Beachwood.
The family renting her Edgewater
Heights home moved this week to
the home of Mrs. W. Beers, next
door.
Mr. Wallace McDonald and Mr.
Kenneth McDonald left this week for
Dartmouth College in Hanover, New
Hampshire.
Mr. David Dana left this week foi
Union College, Schenectady, as did
also Mr. John Dickinson.
Mayor Joseph Marini, of Cliffside,
Councilman Joseph Woodcock, Mr.
Hanch, and Mr. Thomas Fox have
returned to town after having spent
the 'week-end and holiday at Mon
treal, Canada.
Miss Mae Kennely, of Grantwood,
is convalescing at her home after a
recent illness.
Miss Lucy Madden, of Grantwood,
has returned to her home after
spending the summer at Lake Owas*
co, Lake George, and Auburn, N. Y.
Mr. Thomas Fox, of Grantwood,
has purchased a new" Packard sedan,
and may be seen riding around town.
The Misses Mabel and Hattie
Grimm, of Grantwood, have returned
to their home after spending the
week-end at Lake George.
Miss Isabel Mullholland, who has
been the guest of her sister, Mrs.
Lucy Madden, of Grantwood, for the
past several days, has returned to
her home in Hartford, Conn.
Miss Griffin, teacher of the French
and Spanish class of the Cliffside
Park High School, was married to
Mr. William Welch, of Oxford, N. Y.,
during the month of August.
Miss Vogeli, of Grantwood, has re
turned to her home after spending
her vacation ut Indian Lake.
Miss Rosemary White, of Grant
wood, has returned to hfer home after
spending her vacation at Camp fcnike,

Court Grantwood, Catholic Daugh
ters of America, No. 803, held a reg
ular meeting Monday evening at the
Epiphany Hall, Knox avenue, Grant
wood. Due to the absence of Mrs.
Ahearn, Mrs. White presided.
Mrs. Dillon, of Grantwood, enter
tained a musical tea on Thursday af
ternoon at her home in honor of Miss
Barns, of New York. The guests
were: Mrs. Horan, Mrs. Bray, Mrs.
Dillon and Miss Barns.
Mrs. and Mr. J. Vosbiirgh, of 17
Lincoln avenue, Grantwood, have re
, turned to their home after a month’s
motor trip to St. Louis. They trav
eled as far south as Roanoke, Vir
ginia.
The Helping Hand Society will
hold their first meeting of the sea
son at the Christian Orphan Home,
in Fort Lee.
Edmund Wirths, of Grantwood, will
enter the Brussels Conservatory this
fall, where he will continue his stud
ies on the violin. - He has been stu
dying music abroad for the past few
years.

The Christian Endeavor of the
, Grantwood Congregational Church
. held its first meeting of the season
at the church hall, on Columbia ave
nue, Grantwood, on Tuesday evening,
A goodly attendance was present, and
any one wishing to join should do so
in the near future. The organiza
tion meets every Tuesday evening.
Several of the younger set of Cliff
side and Grantwood attended the
,dance at the Leonia High School on
Saturday evening, and a very pleas
ant time was had by all.
Mrs. Ahearn and daughter, Mary,
of Grant avenue* have returned to
their home after spending the entire
summer visiting relatives in Susque
hanna, Pa. Mary Ahearn will enter
Holy Angels in Fort Lee on Wednes
day.
Mr. Jordan, of Grant avenue,
Grantwood, has returned to his home
after spending a two months’ vaca
tion in the middle west.
Mrs. Hopkins, of Grantwood, has
returned to her home after spending
the entire summer at Susquehanna,
Pa.
Mr. and Mrs. Ford and daughter,
Mary, of Grant avenue, Grantwood,
spent a very enjoyable day at Croton
on the Hudson River, on Sunday.
Officer Fred Kuhn, graduate of the
Cliffside Park High School, in the
year ’25, who attends Annapolis
Naval Academy, has been in town
for the past several weeks, and will
return to the Academy next week.
Clifford Spiller, of Palisade ave
nue, Grantwood, June graduate of the
Cliffside Park High School, has re
turned to school to take a post grad
uate course of one year, so that he
can be Certified to enter dental school
next year.

home at a bridge party in honor of
her many friends, on Saturday after
noon. The afternoon was pleasantly
spent in playing Cards, during which
delicious refreshments were served
by the hostess.

gand, second; and ■ Mrs. W. Weller,
booby prize.

The Towanopa Group of Camp Fire
Girls, of which Miss Helen Dickerson
is guardian, held the opening meet
ing of the season last evening at the
Episcopal Church Hall, Palisade ave
nue, Clilfside.
Mr. Walter E. Rughgarden, who
has been pastor of the Dutch Re
formed Church this past, summer, has
resumed his studies at the Theologi
cal Seminary.
Miss Helen Hazzoli, of Anderson
avenue, Cliffside, who spent the sum
mer at her aunt and uncle’s home in
Beachwood, has returned to her home
and is now resuming her studies at
college.
Mr. and Mrs. F. Adams, of Cliff
side, announce the coining marriage
of their daughter, Anna, to Mr. Alex
ander Lakstutis, to he held on Sep
tember 19th, at 3 o’clock at the St.
John’s Church, Walker street, Cliff
side. The reception will be held at
Carrelle’s Hall, Cliffside.
Mrs. Lumberst, of Cliffside, has re
turned to her home after spending a
three months’ tour of Germany and
Poland, where she visited relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. Morton and little
daughter, of Philadelphia, Pa., were
guests in town recently. Mrs. Mor
ton will be remembered as Miss Lidia
Heckelberg, of John street, Cliffside.
The several Sunday School teach
ers of the Italian Congregational
Church, Jersey'avenue, Cliffside, have
been notified thft the opening of the
Sunday School will be on hand on
Sunday morning at 9::30 o’clock to
take charge of their respective
classes.
All classes of the Cliffside Park
High and Junior High School are
now well under way and the students
are looking forward to a pleasant
and successful term.
Paul Kankowski, of Cliffside, who
has spent one year at Rutgers, has
announced that he will not return
this yeur to finish his course there.
Miss Mildren Gnauk and a party of
friends, from Hillsdale, N. J., were
visitors in town recently.
Miss 'Dorothy Baxter, former
teacher in the English department of
the Cliffside Park High School, and
who was forced to return to her
home last winter due to an illness,
has now returned and resumed her
duties.
The Daughters ctf Israel, of Cliff
side Park, are planning to give a
card party at the home of Mrs. Adler,
of Ridgefield Park, one of .its mem
bers, on Monday evening, September
27.
The Jewish School on Cliff street,
Cliffside, is now opened and any Jew
ish children in the neighborhood who
have not yet joined the school are
urged to do so immediately.
Services will be held on Friday
and Saturday night at the Jewish
Synagogue.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lucht and
son, Allen, of Fulton terrace, Cliff
side, were the guests at the summer
cottage of Mr. and Mrs. A. Engle, of
Englewood, in Rainawana, N. J.
The Misses Marie and Charlotte
Hellstern, of Hudson Heights, Cliff
side, returned to Holy' Angels’ School,
Fort Lee, on Wednesday.
Miss Marguerite Leopold, of Com
mercial avenue, Cliffside, and a party
of friends are on a bus tour of the
New England states, and according
to reports are enjoying the trip im
mensely.
Mr. Otto Mampe, president of the
Silent Automatic Oil Burner, reports
that.the business is thriving, at their
office on Palisade avenue, Cliffside.
Dr. Hellstern, Mr. A. Vandewege,
Mr. Carmine Richards, Mr. M. Or
geller, and Mr. Mampe, have pur
chased a 200 acre plot of land at
Barnegat Bay, N. J. Next summei
they intend to build cottages, and
anyone wishing information should
see Mr. Richards.
The members of the County Demo
cratic Committee, of Cliffside, at
tended the meeting held in Hacken
sack on Tuesday evening. The in
clusives were Mrs. John F. O’Toole,
Mrs. J. Flanigan, Angelo Gerbasi,
James Branigan, Miss Lucy Madden,
Mr. Francis Banville.
Mr. and Mrs. Kondelka and family,
of Jersey Avenue, Cliffside, are now
occupying their new home in Wood
cliff.
Mrs. J. McCullough, music instruc
tress in the Cliffside Park High
School, tested the voices of all the
students on Wednesday, so as to ar
range the seating plan for the as
sembly hall, and also to get members
for the Glcen Club.
Marion Vandewege, of Edgewatei
Heights, has returned to her studies
at Holy Ahgels, Fort Lee.
Mrs. J. F. O’Toole, of Edgewatei
Heights, Cliff side Park, entertained
at her home on Saturday evening in
honor of Mrs. George Brown, of
Edgewater road, Cliff side, who has
spent the summer at the home of her
daughter in Minnesota, at bridge.
Cards were served by the hostess.

ick, Mrs. Schlickling, Mrs. Harris,
Mrs. Holden and Mrs. Hofmayer.
Normal Review Classes, at the
Cliffside Park High School, started
on Wednesday and Mr. Barker is the
teucher in charge. It is expected
that these students will take the en
trance exams in January, and enter
the beginning of the second term.

clair Normal School this week.

R. Rover, of Brooklyn, at her home
on Wednesday evening at dinner.
Miss Lou and Berte Jens, of Edge
water Heights, have resumed their
duties as teachers in the Union City
Public Schools.

Miss Lou Jens, of Edgewater
Heights, entertained at her home at
dinner on Tuesday evening, her

James Macke, of Palisade avenue,
Cliffside, has returned to his home
after spending the entire summer at
the home of a friend in Denver, Col
orado.
Miss Hazel Rohenback, of Ander
son avenue, Cliffside, entertained at
her home recently at a bridge party,
many of her friends from Montclair
and Union City.
Mrs. Eberle, of Cliffside, enter
tained for several days her sister,
Miss Sophie Schwallbach, of Spring
field, Mass.
Dr. and Mrs. Hellstern, and party
of friends returned home from the
Thousand Islands after enjoying a
big fishing game. A most wonderful
time was hod by all. Dr. Hellstern
won first prize for catching the larg
est bass, and Mr. Vandewege, of
Edgewater Heights, received the
smallest fish.

Mrs. Carmine Richards, Mr. and Mrs.
Vandewege, Mr. and Mrs. Storff, and
Mr. and Mrs. Hellstern, of Hudson
Heights, and Mr. and Mrs. Seldbaun,
and Mr. and Mrs. Speigel, of New
York City.
Miss Miller, of Connecticut, who
has been the guest of Mrs. Crowley,
of Hudson Heights, for several weeks
has returned to her home.

where he is spending several days.

have returned to their home after
spending two weeks at Keansburg,

The Mazzini Men’s Club will meet
next Friday, September 24, when a
large group of young men will be
admitted. The Various organizations
of the church have decided to redec
orate the basement hall and to cover
the church floor with a carpet.
Dr. and Mrs. F. G. Dilger and two
children, of Palisade avenue, Cliffside,
motored to Lake George recently.
Miss Margaret Cacavell, of Lin
coln avenue, Grantwood, is confined
to her home with illness, and is un
able to attend her position.
Mrs. Prina, of Lawton avenue,
Grantwood, visited her friend, Mrs.
Ludin, of Piermont, N. Y., at the St.
Vincent Hospital, N. Y., where she
recently underweht a very serious
but successful operation for goitre.
A social meeting of the Catholic
Daughters of America, No. 803, Court
Grantwood, will be held on Monday
evening, September 27, on the lawn
of the homes of Mrs. Fox and Mrs.
Ahearn, of Grant avenue.
Mr. William Sperling, of Knox ave
nue, who has been ill at his home for
the past week, is still confined to his
bed, making it impossible to attend
to his duties as teacher at the Union
City High School.
Miss Vara Noon, of Anderson ave
nue, Cliffside, was the recent guest
of Miss Thelma Taterka, of 754 An
derson avenue, Grantwood.

son avenue, Grantwood, entertained
several of her school chums from
New Jersey College for Women at
New Brunswick, at her home on
Wednesday afternoon, at bridge. The
guests enjoyed a very pleasant game,
after which delicious refreshments
were served by the hostess.

Miss Hazel Corker, who has been
with a firm in Minmi, is spending her
month’s vacation in Fort Lee. She
will return to the South about Oct. 1.

Catherine Cummins, daughter of

Lieutenant John Reardon, who is
attached to the military bureau at
Washington, D. C., visited his par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Reardon, of
Main street.
Mrs. Charles Mehlin has returned
from Europe.
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest L. Abbott, of
Center avenue, and Mr. and Mrs.
Harry Beedenbender, of Limvood ave
nue, who have been the guests of
Mrs. Abbott’s mother at Navesink,
N. J., will visit Atlantic City before
they return home.
Miss Catherine Donovan, who spent
the summer with her grandmother,
Mrs. J. Tdythall, of Maple street,
left this week for her home in Bound
Brook.
Mrs. Joseph H. Bond and daugh
ters, Peggy and Edith, of Sayville,
Long Island, arrived at the home of
Mrs. Bond’s mother, Mrs. Irma Sza
bo, of Center avenue, on Wednes
day evening. Little Peggy is now at
St. Luke’s Hospital, New York, where
she had her tonsiis removed on Thurs
day.

Mr. and Mrs. George Brown, and
daughter, Marjorie, who have been
vacationing in the Kittatinny Moun
tains, are home again.
The Coytesville fire alarm rang Wed.
night at eight o’clock, causing great
excitment and a splendid turnout.
When the multitude assembled at the
firehouse, it turned out to be a drill.
Indian Head Council plans to have
a hat social this month at the regu
lar meeting of that organization.
Miss Mabel Lozier has resumed her
duties as first grade teacher in the
Bloomfield, N. J., public school. She
will live in Bloomfield during the
week and return to her parents’ home
on Sixth street over week-ends.
John Manning and Robert Carney
spent the last week-end at Asbury
Park.
Mr. and Mrs. William Koehler, of
Coytesville, have returned from Ger
many after a summer vacation spent
there.
Mr. and Mrs. John Hiel have re
turned from their wedding trip and
will reside in the future at 446 West
View place. Mrs. Hiel was Miss
Bertha Linhart, of Coytesville, prior
to her marriage on August 20, at
Holy Trinity.
Cards have been received from the
Traviani family now traveling in Eu
rope. They are expected to return to
Coytesville during October.
