A TWO DOLLAR LECTURE.
Horses Have Rights Bound to Be
Respected.
John Flinn paid a $2 livery bill in
police court yesterday morning and re
ceived in return a lecture from Re
corder Schwartz, based on that scrip
tural observation, "The merciful man ie
kind to his beast." Mr. Flinn is a non
resident of Phoenix. He came to town
early Friday evening and hitched his
team in front of D. H. Burtis.' What
became of Mr. Flinn afterward or how
he employed his time during the night
was not disclosed. But the hnrseB were
in evidence all the time. They Btood at
that uncomfortable post and went
through the night without wood or
water.
Early in the morning an officer re
moved them and Flinn came around
making inquiries. He was just the
man the officer was looking for and
that's the way he got into police court.
Incidentally James Bird was sent to
the calaboose for two days for drunken
ness. Contested School Elections.
A considerable part of County Super
intendent Jordan's time was occupied
yesterday in bringing order out of chaos
into which many of the county school
districts were plunged at the late elec
tion. In district No. 18 where there
had been an irregular election, William
Crismon, a former member of the board
of trustees, was reappointed for three
vears. In district No. 14 two trustees,
M. H. McCord and W. F. Mather, had
been regularly elected, but there was
doubt as to which was elected for the
long term. Mr. McCord was appointed.
Returns from district No. 16 show that
J. P. Orme, J. A. Vinson and Wm.
Green were elected.

Will of Chas. L. Squler.
The will of the late Chas. L. Squier
was presented in probate court yester
day with a petition for letters testa
mentary to his widow who is named in
the will as sole legatee and executrix
with unrestricted powers. The will
was made on February 21, some time
previous to his marriage. The property
bequeathed consists of a part owner
ship in a restaurant, bonds of the
Orchard Grove Improvement company,
real estate and personal property ag
gregating about $1,200.
