Ten men were sent oat yesterday by
the Pennsylvania Irrigation company.
Work is progressing quietly on the
construction of the great Cave Creek
enterprise.
The Alkire company has been a little
later than. usual this spring, but its
stock has at last arrived, consisting of
clothing, hats, straw hats .and wash
dress goods .
Miss Minnie McNally, the young
lady who was thrown from a horse
on Washington street Friday after
noon, is., much improved and a rapid
recovery is hoped for.
Robert Black, clerk of the probate
court, left this morning for Los Ange
les by the way of Ash Fork. He goes
on business and will be absent until the
latter part of the week.
The Arizona Improvement company
yesterday received a carload of trees,
deciduous, olive and almond from Cali
fornia nurseries. They were sent oat
to the company's Glendale ranch.
H. N. Willis, Jr., returned from Cali
fornia yesterday morning. Mr. Willis
was called to California on a case of
considerable importance and was suc
cessful, as it was decided in his favor.
Beginning tomorrow the Alkire com
pany will nave all ready and on sale
the greatest bargains of their history in
dry goods and clothing. The goods
have all arrived and are the latest in
style.
Although reconfirmed as a member
of the territorial live stock and sanitary
commission, M. E. Hurley will see that
the quality of meat at his market is not
deteriorated.
Chas. Hoff returned to his home in
Tucson last night. He expects to re
main there a few days and then in com
pany with Councilman Scott and H.
Drachman will take a four weeks' trip
to the coast and Honolulu.
A pleasant way to spend the evening
is to try the roller skating at the park
rink. Every day and evening the park
is open. The floor is newly laid and as
tavel as the surface of a placid pool.
There is music two nights every week.
License to marry was issued yester
day to Alphonse Bulidon and Gabrielle
Augel, both natives of France. The
marriage ceremony was perforooed by
Probate Judge Crouse at bis office.
The bride has resided in the city some
time but the groom arrived only yester
day morning.
The lucky winner of the handsome
gold watch which remained over since
tha Christmas Catholic fair until last
Tuesday evening, is Mr. Henry Kenaud,
of Grand avenue, Phoenix. Mr. Hugh

which was donated by the Hainbrook
& Schorr conipany of Phoenix.
The attention of the German people
is again directed to the fact that the
missionary of the ' Lutheran church
from Albuquerque, N. M., will preach
for them at the Presbyterian church in

the afternoon at 3 o'clock. It is to be
hoped that many will hear him. In
the evening, as announced, he .will
preach in the Presbyterian church.
There will also be another sermon on
Monday at 7 :30 b. in.
'Attorney Mark H. Heissman is short
one horse, a gray pony without any dis
tinguishing mark or brand. There is
also missing nine feet of rope. The
stake to which the rope was tied and a
regret are all that remain. The pony
was in the temporary keeping of a resi
dent of Churchiil's addition. Between
the hours of two and four o'clock the
pony was untied and abstracted pre
sumably by an Indian.
There never were so many straw hats
for men together, in one place as can be
found at the Alkire company's. It will
be possible this season to get a good,
durable straw hat for 35 cents. The
company's buyer while in New York
ran into some of the greatest bargains
in Bpring weight and light summer
clothing that were ever offered in that
great market. He grabbed 'em all
quick, and all Phoenix will get the
benefit of the firm's enterprise and
good luck in securing them.
A big strike has been made on the
Silver King. The foreman was in town
yesterday with a big lump of almost
pure silver taken trom a newly discov
ered vein, not of the Silver King proper,
but of an adjoining claim belonging to
the company. The ledge is two feet
wide and has been followed down 300
feet. The foreman is on his way to Saji
Francisco to make arrangements for ex
tensive operations upon tho new find.
The steadily increasing price of silver
now touching upon .64 adds to the
happy gravity of the situation.
Tomorrow night the Good Templars
will hold an open meeting in Y. M. C.
A. hall, to which all are invited. The
lodge has passed its seventeenth birth
day and will celebrate the event in a
public meeting. Rev. G. L. Pearson
will tell of the early history of the
lodge, and short addresses will be de
livered by others bearing on the later
work. Mrs. Depew has kindly con
sented to sing, and it is hinted that a
male quartet may assist in the festivi
ties. Other vocal and instrumental
music will be rendered and several
recitations.
Articles of incorporation were filed
veeterday of the Esperanza company by
Clark Churchill, D. M. Eiordan, A. M.
Ellsworth, C D. Baker and Herbert R.
Patrick. The amount of capital stock
is $600,000. The general nature of the
business purposed to be carried on is
buying, selling and fleveloping mining
propert, extraction, concentration and
reduction of ores, purchase and sale of
bullion, lands, water, water rights,
mills, machinery, merchandise, timber
and general dealing in mines and min
ing property. Phoenix is the principal
place of business.
Mrs. M.K. Brown and daughter of Des
Moines, Iowa, mother and sister of As
semblyman Thos. H. Brown of Yava
pai county, lying critically ill at the
Alhambra, arrived in the city tonight
Since the beginning ot his illness, six
weeks ago, Mr. Brown has had the un
remitting attention of his colleague,
Hon. J. C. Martin, who has sent daily
letters or telegrams to the sick man's
friends in the east and in California.
The pressure of private business has
compelled his return to Prescott so that
his brotherly attendance will be super
seded by a mother's and sister's care.
In district court yesterday all the law
suitB growing out of the Daggs failure
was transferred to Yavapai county for
trial. Several others were similarly
transferred among which was the case
of the National Bank of Arizona
against the board of supervisors of
Maricopa county. The case of E. J.
Edwards against the Utah Irrigating
Ditch company was sent to Florence.
In the case of Osborne vs. Donnelly, a
motion for a new trial was denied and
notice of appeal was given. The two
cases of L. P. Nash againBt the Mutual
Insurance company of New York, were
set for trial on April 3. The case of
Day vs. Clayson et al, will be tried next
Tuesday.

It is pretty well established that no
amount of feeding- will increase the
proportion of butter fat in the milk,
but it is just as fully proven that the .
amount of milk may he increased and
the proportion of fat kept up. Feed
