The Professional Services of Dr. Brannen Hastily Secured. acd ; All Ends Well. From tbe Flagstaff Democrat. There was considerable commotion at the depot last Monday evening when the train arrived from the east. Dr. D. J.Brannetwas hastely called from hig boudoir to a tourists' car, where he found a summons of great pith and moment. Between trains that are sup posed to meet here at the same time he he officiated at the birth of a little one who is now nestling at its mothei's breast in Flagstaff. The mother is Mrs. Hayes, who waa ticketed to San Francisco, where she intended to visit relatives. The untoward circumstances in the lady's career necessitated her trans- portation to a hotel upon a stretcher and the amiable doctor brought up the rear with the precious burden in his arms. There were many wild speculations as to the cause of tbe unusual procession "Dear me !" exclaimed a well known lady. "Has theie been a wreck, doc tor?" "No, madam," replied the doc tor, with characteristic imperturbabil ity, "only a birth." . Tbe mother and the cherub are flour ishing. The wisdom of the national commit tee in selecting a city eo centrally lo cated, easy ot access, as Louisville, Ky., for the twenty-ninth annual encamp ment of the Grand Army of the Repub lic, September 11th to 14th, it lully justified, judging from the numerous inquiries received from all parts of the country relative to transportation facili ties, passenger rates, limits of tickets, etc. In anticipation of a very large atten dance, the Baltimore & Ohio South western railway (formerly the O. & M. R'y), the leading route to Louisville from the west, north and east, has made preparations to afford visitors every facility, both in the way of low rates and fast trains, handsomely and comfortably equipped, from all its ter minal points. Territory of Artiona. i Executive Department I By an Act of Congress approved June 28, 1894, the first Monday In September, being the sec ond day of the month, is designated as a legal uuuuajr, 10 De Jnown as .Labor Day. As labor is the mainspring of civilisation, wealth and happines, and its cononest. nn. where so striking as In the development Dunning up ot our Republic, the wisdom of me m recognmng labor Is not only apparent, but when applied to the people of ourtrritnr who are struggling to develop its various re. sources and industries, and laboring to estab- usn nomes in a new region. Is highly appro priate. Among our courageous, busy, industrl ous population there are few drones, few who cannot justly be classed as laborers; the mer chant, the miner, the mechanic, the lawyer, the farmer, the teacher, the clerk, the divine,' the banker and the laborer, and while mn.nv earn their bread by the sweat of their face and others by the sweat of their brain, all are no less toners. A general observatio i of the day so wisely set apart by Congress will serve to 'promote a higher appreciation of labor, and the part it iB taking In the development and carryine on of our industries, for the upbuilding of which, all are so earnestly striving. This day should bring labor into a closer relation with other interests and cultivate the principles of co operation between "capital and labor," and thus encourage and establish a wholesome feeling, with a view to more harmonious rela tions among all the people. How, therefore, I, Louis C, Hughes. Governor of the Territory of Arizona, do hereby recom mend and request that all shops, offices, manu facturing and commercial industries and other places where labor is employed, suspend opera tion on that day, that all may have an oppor tunity to observe the day in a manner befitting the spirit which gave it birth, a day which to future generations will become as suggestive rnd inspiring as the religious and'pariotic holidays which our people so loyally and re ligiously obsfrve.
