THE ARIZONA REPUBLICAN: THURSDAY MORNING, SEPEEMBER 3, 1896.
3 Members of the house of commons have heretofore reserved their seats in the house by leaving their hats in them during prayer time. ' The speaker has introduced an innovation by allowing a seat to be reserved by leaving on it a visiting card, "provided that the member has attended prayers." At Avignon, the palace of the popes, in which, during the "Babylonian cap tivity," for seventy years in the four teenth century, the popes lived, which is now used as a cavalry barracks, is to be completely restored and used as a museum or for the residence of the archbishop. , At the Russian town of Reni, at the junction of the Pruth and the Danube, a rich find was made lately of gold coins of the time of Philip of Macedon, the father of Alexander the Great. They are in excellent preservation, and five hundred and twelve of them have al ready been seized by the police and sent to St. Petersburg. TOO FAT? GET THIN! Dr. Edison's Obesity Pills, Salt and Band, the Only Obesity Treatment Admitted at the World's Fair, Cure . Corpulency and the Chronic Dis eases Which Cause It and Aie Caused by It. From the Chicago Times-Herald: "Dr. Edison's Obesity Pills, Salt and Bands for fat .people have advanced to a place in public and professional con- 1 ndence which, marks them as superior to all I2 other obesity remedies so called and guaran- ' 3 tees the honesty of pur pose and regulation of those who ad vertised and sold them for so many years. These remedies have during recent years come to toe prescribed by leading pnysicians everywhere, and should be taken now to make the pa tient thin and strong before the ihot season advances, for the summer months are full of perils to the fat. In most cases from one to two months' treatment suffices." Deborah Presfon Sheldon, Little Bock, Ark., writes: "My hips and ab domen became unduly fat and my phy sician induced ime to take- Dr. Edison's Obesity remedies. In about five weeks three bottles of the pills and two of the saK reduced me SI pounds and restored to me all my old gracefulness." (Mrs. Carrie Buckingham Joy, Bos ton's favorite modeler la clay, writes: "Dr. Edison's Obesity treatment re duced me 46 pounds in 48 days." Hon. Win. H. Deame, writing from Albuquerque, says: "Dr. Edison's Obesity Band reduced my abdominal measurement 10 inches in four weeks." These remedies take off a pound a day. No rigid dieting. No purging. No inconvenience. No danger. No loss of time. Perfectly .harmless. No No "tonics," "nervines," "sarsapa parillas," etc necessary when pills and salt are used. They take the place of all female remedies and regulators. Obesity Fruit Salt, $1 a bottle. Obe sity Pills, $1.50 a bottle. Obesity Bands $2.50 and up. There Is only one way that Is safe for Bny man or any number of men, in medium circumstances, by which they can maintain their present position, If it be a good one, or raise themselves above it if it be a bad one, in any com munity, much less one with the oppor tunities of Phoenix, viz: By the prac tice of industry, frugality and prompt action In securing city property. The eye and ear of three-fourths of the - wealthy of the United States are watcnmg Phoenix ana its an told wealth. Arizona standi with out an equal on tbis continent in the plen itude of rfcb resources. Her coal lands, aggregating 40,000 square miles; her timber carefully estimated, over fer. thousand million feet, not to speak of her mineral, iruit, cattle and agri cultural lands, her climate surpassing that of Egypt. In such a section there Is no surer road by which young men and ladies especially, can raise them selves from a position In which they feel to be incompatible and unsatisfac tory a3 regards their mental and phys ical conditions.- than cy commencing at once to make payments on a lot in this phenomenal city while the present opportunity lasts (mark our words; it never will be repeated in Phoenix). It particularly applies to hundreds of commercial travelers coming and going monthly: to over three hundred public school teachers in Arzlzona (represent ing some thirty different states in the Union, as well as Canada). To hund reds of our brave old miners now re quiring a home and rest in the city of which they laid the foundation years ago Phoenix. To every man, old and young, not a capitalist already, that is today investing in local loan and build ing associations which on their face and by virtue of their plans must prove inadequate for the very purpose for which their good thinking promoters founded them in this, that from limit ed resources such Institutions must produce very limited results and, when considered with the wants of a met ropolitan city like Phoenix, most un satisfactory in the end. This emer gency or necessity, however, will be amply supplied our city In the near future by corporations of unlimited means when the modern house worth from $2,000 upward will be sold to the energetic citizen on a very , small cash payment down and one hundred and twenty months in which to pay bal ance. More than that, the monthly payment (interest Included will not be over $12) with a further clause in the contract that should the purchaser di after the first year's . pay ment thereon, his family will recelvt a deed for the same (a clean cut deed). We submit with charity to all, but with a firm sense of duty toward every young man in our city that he at once buy a cheap lot or several if he can, and do so while time and opportunity lasts which will not be long. Kllroy's New Palestine agency is the only factor, yes public benefactor, that can offer you inside property at one-third its value and will continue to do so for the month of June, July and August if not sold out sooner. That it speaks in pro phetic language and at the right time is appreciated already by many per sons whose aim in life is the taking advantage of phenomenal opportuni ties in this city. Read his ad carefully in another column and in the other dailies of Phoenix. It suggests that you do not idly put it off, but make up your mind and take advantage thereof today, either by calling or writing him. You will never regret it, but lay the foundation of your hundreds, if not thousands of dollars, within a year or two, remembering always that "we are lacking in true courage when for fear of the future we persist in taking the crusts- and scraps and wholly rely on the niggardly salaries of the present. We should not be satisfied with a sal ary alone. We should not mortgage t4 - The Republican to their HELP AND WORK. the possibilities of our future, more particularly after having the opportu nities so apparent as are those in Phoenix today, called to our attention. No! We should, while opportunity is ours, have the courage to take life as it comes feast or famine. The read ers of this article and their friends throughout the United States and Can ada can remit to our credit $100 to the Phoenix National bank, with an addi tional $2.50 registry fee, when the bank will return them a warranty deed and abstract of title. Should thdy so de sire the property can be taken care of by our agency. Parties, and we Invite every deserving person while the lots remain, living throughout Arizona that desire to purchase on the installment plan can remit as above one-third of the lot purchase, when we will place in the bank a warranty deed in escrow which will be returned when balance of purchase money is paid. .The low est priced lots now offered Is $100. In making this offer, Kllroy's New Pal estine agency is giving to its patrons at least an aggregate sum of $35,000 In values, viz: $150 on each lot so sold.
