Interesting Programme Rendered By
Miss Haskett's Pupils.
The entertainment given by MUs
Haskett's pupils In the Methodist
church last night was a very success
ful affair In every way, for the audi
ence taxed the seating capacity of tho
auditorium to Its utmost, and tho pro
gramme was of exceptional merit and
pleased the hearers most thoroughly.
Much credit was reflected upon Miss
Haskett by the rendition of difficult
character sketches and Impersonations,
In a manner befitting professionals, by
her pupils. "
The leading feature of the e'enlng's
entertainment was v Juvenile drama,
entitled "The Fairy of the Fountain."
In which a score or more of little ones
participated. To single out u. few
numbers for special mention would
seem unfair to the others, for all the
parts were well rendered. Hut those
who seemed to please the audience best
were Willie Corpsteln, In a couple of
character songs, In color "Dixie Kid"
and "Push Dem Clouds Away" In
which he displayed the true genius of a
minstrel: Franklin McKelllgon, In a
"Boy's Dilemma:" Leland Dawes, on
"Our Babjj " Clara Bunker. In u. very
difficult recitation entitled "My First
Recital;" Hazel Cowan, in a vocal
selection entitled "Janet's Choice:" the
recital of "How He Saved St. Mich
ael," by seven girls in concert, and a
motion song and concert recitation en
titled "The Berry Pickers," by eight
een little girls.
The recitations by Mabel Creager, en
titled "The Fate of Virginia:" by Erll
Hughes, entitled "The Llghtkeeper's
Daughter," and by Hazel Cowan, en
titled "On the Rappahanock," -were
particularly well rendered, and worthy
of special mention,

Phoenix, had an exciting experience a
few days ago. The Incident arose over
the placing with one, C. C. Harwell, for
his use in carrying out a sub-contract

road. It is customary for Robinson & Too
hey to furnish their sub-conti actors
with all their supplies. Including all
kinds of merchandise, plows, scrapers,
etc. Mr. Harwell had been awarded a
large contract and required supplies'
and material amounting to nearly
$1,500. Harwell loaded his supplies at
the store of tiie commissary at Blsbee,
on Thursday last, and started for the
section of ground awarded him In his
contract.
Instead of stopping nt the designated
place, he started for New Mexico, with
.merchandise and supplies that would
last him for some months. Word wan
soon brought to Mr. Robinson that
Harwell had thrown up his 3ob and
was making tracks for New Mexico as
fast as six horses could pull a wagon.
Mr. Robinson secured the services of
Deputy Sheriff Strickland and overtook
the wagon near Camp No. 3, about
nine miles from the New Mexico line.
Harwell cut loose one of his work
tearr and escaped across the line.
Deputy Sheriff Strickland unhitched a
buggy animal and gave pursuit, but
without success. The buggy horse
could not travel In the rocks and Har
well made good his escape.
Robinson denies the report that he
and Toohey will dissolve partnership.
He says:
"The report was probably circulated
by a broken-down politician who was
in our employ for a short time as time-'
Keeper, and who afterwards returned
to Phoenix. Mr. Toohey nnd I nre on
very pleasant terms and the work in
Mexico Is going forward without any
dlfllculty."
He says the grade has been com-1
pleted thirty-five miles In Mexlto and
track has been laid a distance of fif
teen miles and Is progressing at the
rate of a mile a day. The grade caEt
has been completed for a distance of
twenty-five miles. No steel will be laid
east until the track-layers have over
taken the graders in Mexico,
