Yesterday he disposed of forty eight pieces, and still has about seventy-two more, which will be sold to day and Monday. The total valuation of the real estate sold yesterday was 9301.51, the highest price being J23.65, and the lowest $1.46. According to the law, this property may be redeemed at an addition of thirty per cent to the price. The retail dealers have or ganized a protective association, and today placarded their bars with cop ies of rules, which embrace 'the fore going. The standard beer glass will be fourteen ouncc-3, and the liquor glass three ounces. Saloon men say the fur nishing of schooners and free lunches means the creation of loafers. Members of the local post of the Grand Army of the Republic avIU play a prominent part In the welcoming of President McKinley on the occasion of his visit tio Phoenix next month. Thurs day evening the post held a meeting and appointed a committee to confer ith the city council, In regard to plans for the reception. Major EU Schwartz, J. M. Christy nnd Gilbert D. Gray compose the, committee. It Is understood that the old soldiers are to be given the leading place In the pa rade, ami it Is likely that the entire post, nearly one hundred men, will march. Of late years many of the veterans have felt physically unable to participate in the parades, but such an event as this will doubtless draw out' every one of the boys who wore the blue alongside Major 'McKinley. The G. A. R. has as yet not made its i wjjj plans for .Memorial vay. A meeting will be held early In April nnd ar rangements completed. o TO TURN OVER LIBRARY City to Be Given Charge of the Col lection of Books. Next Friday evening, the Phoenix .Library association will meet the city council, at the library rooms- and: turn over the library to-th city. Such ac tion waa decided upon at the meeting of the association- on Thursday evening. The- Phoenix Library association was formed about two years ago and has accumulated nearly 2,500 volumes, many of them very valuable. Besides , this, the association has paid all its ' bills and will turn the library over to the city entirely free of debt. After the formal presentation by the associ ation, and the acceptance by the coun cil, a board of trustees, consisting of five members, will be appointed and a librarian will be chosen. Mrs. II. M. Chapman has been filling that posi tion, but has handed In her resignation. W. Dorrlngton of Yuma, who has been in the city for several days, returned home last night. Mrs. W. E. Defty and Miss Julia Sapp are spending a few weeks at the Osborne mine at Wickenburg. Mr. James It. Thorpe- of Denver, a bioker well known in Phoenix, ar rived In the city yes'.erday morning.
