months In the year; that less than a
fourth of the water required by alfalfa
Is nccesarjr for the sugar beet; that
from J 10 to 110 per acre can be realized
from sugar beets, and that the pulp,
after the sugar is extraoted, is ti most
valuable feed for cattle. Most impor
tant probably Is the minimum amount
of wnter which lr. needed In beet cul
ture, and In this valley, where alfalfa
as the chief crop drinks up more than
four times as Jauch water ns would be
required by Ixtts, and pays returns less
than hnlf that the beet would bring, It
seems reasonable to suppose that tho
ranchers tilll welcome with open arm
the new product.
