T TEMPE ' -Little Geraldlne Hodnett, a daughter nf ihe Tempe postmnster, was severely stung by a scorpion Sunday night, ami was very HI from the effects of the sting all day yesterday, but -won bo Im proved in the evening that It I thought -he will soon be entirely iccovered. This is the second person who has been stung by a scorpion In Tempe within a week, and both persons have been made very ill by It. People would do well to take ull possible precautions ngalnst them, as they seem to be very numerous and their sting exceptionally severe Just now. B. U. Mrs. White, who lives n short distance Avcst of the railroad track on Eighth street, has In her possession a large male bull dog, which she wishes the owner would take care of. The dog 'took up with her on the Tempe road an'd fol lowed her home as she was coming from Phoenix, and has since staed at her place. The animal seemsto be a val aiable one. It has a collax and n dog license tag marked "Dcadwood, S. D." George Patterson of Phoenix was in Tempe yesterday on business. The recent rains are doing iconslder fible damage to the prehistoric ruins which were exposed by the excavations in -the old mound near the crosscut ca nal between Temp and Phoenix. Some time ago tha Arizona Antiquarian so ciety secured the ruin juit mentioned, and under the Ulrectlon of Dr. Miller considerable work In excavating has been done and some walls and interest ing relics uncovered. The ruin prom ises to be of considerable value to scl encejn determining the style of archi tecture and learning the habits of the people who built them, and the ruin should be preserved. Since Dr. Miller's Heath no work has been done and the Tains and winds have started on their work of destruction. Unless the old walls are given protection nothing will be left In a short time. A'. J. and R. K. Daggs of Phoenix were business visitors In Tempo yester day. Wm. Penn met with an accident a few days ago which has put his hand In a sling and kept him answering fool questions about what the matter was for several days.
