Yoik Police.
Mr.
Mobt of the Phoenix friends of Miles
W. Glbbcnir, the mining man, have not
heard from him for a long time. It
wan known In a general way that he
waa suceessfutly operating In Mexico.
A month ago he wan In, New York. hlH
presence there having becw announced
on the fiont page In an article In the
Morning Telegraph with a stair step
luud. till further publicity wan given
Mr. Gibbons by an announcement on
tho top margin of the tUme pag; that
a man from Mexico was In town.
The only other occurrence of the day
given equal prominence in that issue of
1he Telegraph was the defeat of the
Constitution and tho Independence by
tho Columbia.
The Telegraph t'ays of Mr. Gibbons:
"If any one shouM doubt for a mo
ment that It wait an outrage to arrest
Miles W. Gibbons, 69 ycara eld, mining
cnglnicr, of E5 West Eighty-eighth
street. It would be 'well for such person
to consult Mr. Gibbons himself on the
matter. Mr. Glbbona said It was an
outrage, and he was very earnest In his
way of doing so.
"He stood on the corner of Eighteenth
street and Broadway late yesterday af
tern'con, and. In a loud vole, Informed
tmany pETbons whom ho did not know
that It was an outrage. He tried to Im
press lb upon Dlclfl, a policeman of the
Broadway squad the man who arrest,

"Gibbons didn't fee why he should be
arrested merely for making such a dis

"Dlehl calleil a cab and ihey drove
station. There Mr. Gibbons' name was
station. There Mr. Gibbons name was
entered upon a register and he was as
signed to a room, on the ground lloor.
He was put down for an early call, as
he had to be Itr the Jefferson Market
Police court on p.rsonal busln.ss this
morning.
"He had a JJ00 watch and about
?3,000 worth of diamonds glittered on
his llngeis, his shirt and In his cuffs.
"Ho admitted he was a nice man and
that he should not have been oi rested,
but the ssrgcant on duty listened lan
guidly und motioned to a turnkey to
lead him away.
"In Mr. Gibbons' necktie was a very
Jarge opal scarfpln. That may not
have had anything1 to do with his mis
fortune, but opals ate opal?."

A lwuso crowded to the d ois wit
nessed the best play of the ltuble sea
son, that of "Wife for Wife" last night
at the Park theattr. The play Is full
of heart Interest, tears and laughter
and altogether Is much the most Inter
sting and satisfactory play we have
l.ud the pleasure of witnessing duilng
the summer season. "Wife for Wife"
wil) be repeated tonight and another
crowded house is predicted. -Tho usual
roclal hop will take place after the per
formance. o

The Board of Trade Again Moving in
the Matter.
The board of trade yesterday leopcn
ed enncspondence on the subject of the
extension of the Guaymas tialn service
to Phoenix. Secretary Hamilton ad
dressed a letter to Superintendent B. A.
Worthlngton at Tucson sotting forth
the wishes of tho people of Phoenix and
Jhe advantage to (his city of an exten
sion of the service. He described tho
pi ogress of the negotiations with Mr.
Woithlngton'a predecessor. Col. Ran
dolph, up to the time of his resignation.
He invited Mr. Worthlngton to visit
Phoenix and confer with the board on
tho subject.

rzctlon of securing' the train servlc
since Mr. Worthlngton took charge of
tht division' Superintendent Randolph
favored the extension and recommended
It to headquarters. It was taken undc,
consideration there, but when Mr. Ran
