The board of trade which has been giving consideration to a proposition submitted by the lOast ern Hugar company, 'through iis agent Mr. Marshall K. Sampsel. last night agreed to lend Its endorst?ment to the project, and appointed a committee to assist in bringing it to a successful conclusion. The members of the com mittee are: Er. J. M. Ford, president; B. Heyman and J. W. Dorris. The proportion submitted by the company was a very business-like one. It asked a bonus cf 1,500 .acrss of land and signed contracts with farmers for an acreage of 5.000 to be planted in sugar beets. In consideration of the bonus and contracts the company agreed to erect a plant with a capacity of 509 tons daily, to -be Increased whenever required to a capacity of 1.000 tons. The proposition was so attractive that the board was at once interested In it and at once began investigating the reliability of the company. The board has been saticfie?. on this point hy Biadstreet's, G. . W. Kretzinger. Jam A. ravis. industrial agent of the Fanta Fe. and other persons of au thority in the financial wo: Id. The committee appointed last night will begin at once the soliciting of sub fcrlptlons to the bonus and cf getting contracts with farmers for the acreage. The company has placed blank con tra ts in the hands of th committee. The subject has already been so thor oughly canvassed among the farmers that there Is absolutely no doubt of success. There will be. .of course, gen erous cont. ihutiins by' business mn and others than farmers to the land bonus, for though the farmers will be the more t.irectly benefited. th? bene fits wi'l extend to all. Mr. E, H. BryFsebout." an expert of the sugar company, has been in the valley for a week looking over the grovnd. He will remain about ten days longer, confining his investigation to the matt-r of the site. Tnat will be p.artla!ly determined by the water. At present the most available seems to be about midway between Alhmbr,t and Peoria. Mr." Sampsel! will also remain here about two weeks If necessary to assist the committee In its work. The plant will be built wholly of steel and brick. The only woodwoik about i it will be the Jackets around the evap ! orators. At first a plant of only 500-ton capacity will be put in. That wl'l cost between $600,000 ami J700.000. while a 1.000-ton plant will cost about $1,000,000. It is expected if the bonus and the acreage contracts are secured to have the plant peachy for operation In March of 193. Still other things happened to Ring ling's circus during its stay in Phoenix than the many Incidents already rc icrded In the ially press. One thing that will interest local readets U that "Cyrene" Joined the circus h;re and went away with it. Cyrene appeared at the Park theater a. short time ago in a skirt dancing turn. Though It is not generally known here, it is said that she was the original skirt dancer that took New York by storm some years ago. She was in Ill-health and came to PhoLnix for a taste of Ari zona's Invigorating climate. Ano.her incident that culminated here was of a sensational nature. It was noted by those that have seen the circus before that one of the piincipal "trained horse" a-cts was not shown in Phoenix. It is an act wherein thirty-six horses are handled by a Mrs. 0'Briyi. She owned on? of tha nn-imals. a handsome gray that had been given here by Ringling Brothers. Between here and Yuma she had a falling out with her husband, who was Jealous, and on airiving In Phoenix she took hr hors-' to a s;able and ouit th- show. Hence the act was -cut out in ' Phoenix. Later Miss Lola Mliton. her friend and understuly persuaded her to allow her to take the horse and con tinue the act for the circus. Mrs. O'Brien left Pho-.iix on the nevt train for Chicago.
