" At a meeting of the town council on tMonday evening the bids were opened that had been received for the 530.000 water works bonds. Dwight B. Heard of Phoenix, was present at the meet ing and offered a bid on one-half the "bonds, accompanied with a certified eheck for $1,500. It was moved and seconded, that this bid be accepted, providing Mr. Heard would agree to take the balance of the issue by next "Wednesday. He stated that he would 3ike to have the entire lot of bonds, and would have his answer ready at -the "Wednesday evening meeting. Mr. Heard has been very active and has Oone everything he could to aid Tempe In bringing , the water works question to a successful conclusion. It is hoped si nd believed that Mr. Heard will take the entire issue of $30,000 in preference to others. The electric light question was also broached. The council, mayor and all were heartily in favor of constructing an electric light plant in connection with the wafer works system. Most of the business men who are using elec tricity either In their stores or homes " have been sounded on the subject of erecting an electric light plant In con nection with the water works. . All. without exception, believe the idea a good one.- The funds for constructing the plant could easily be secured. All that the town and business men would be asked to do would be to back up the proposition by using electricity . fur nished by the town plant. It is felt that there will not be the slightest trouble on this score, as anyone with a spark of loyalty could not patronize a private coneern in preference to their own town. A committee of three, com posed of Councilmen Brown, Dines and the mayor, vas appointed to investi gate the electric light question, cost of construction, wiring, etc. A report will be made next "Wednesday. Tempe depends up on the farmers, and the farmers large ly depend upon Tempe. At the masquerade ball, next Thurs day evening, to be given by the Re bekah lodge at the Odd Fellows hall, before entering all will be required to raise their mask at the door. This rule is made to prevent the entrance of any objectionable characters. Last evening five Yaqul Indians put forth their best endeavors to illustrate the title of that familiar bulla.!. "There'll Be a Hot Time In The Old Town Tonight." The most unfortunate member of the five was found lying be side an irrigating ditch without shoes, coat or hat. He had a most mournful tale to tell of how his companions had horsewhipped him. stolen his shoes and money. Ben Cum mi tigs rounded up four of the bunch and brought them on the carpet before Judge Tomlinsou. After mature deliberation the Judge decided it would be be3t for them to take Thanksgiving dinner with the county, as It was clearly shown that there had been four on the red, and he was half-shot. Many ranchmen about Tempe are bothered more or less by having patches of alkalai upon their farms. It has been pretty well demonstrated! however, that this alkali! ground can be made as productive as the very best land. There is no better illus tration of this fact than the tract of land owned by Mr. Gage on the west side of Mill avenue, south of town. Frank Fogal took hold of this patch when it was one of the most alkali spots in this section. Thes desert sage brush and other rank growth was cleared away. The ground was thor oughly gone over with a. large 12-inch plow and four horses. It was then manured and plenty of straw worked in. The ends of the straw stuck out of the ground, allowing the water to soak into the soil. Vndoubtedly the desert patch now being cleared by Mr. Har mon can be brought to produce a good stand of alfalfa. All that is necessary is a little ex' labor. We say the old way but really It is the commcn and usual one at the pres ent time and many dyspeptics, and physicians as weH, consider the first step in attempting to cure Indigestion Is to diet, either by selecting certain food and rejecting others or to greatly diminish the quantity of food usually taken. In other words the starvation plan. Is by many, supposed to be the first essential in the cure of weak difrettion. The almost certain failure of the starvation cure for stomach trouble has been proven time and again, but still the usual advice. when dyspepsia makes its apearance. Is a course of dieting. All this Is radically wrong. It Is foolish and unscientific to recommend dieting or starvation to a person suffer ing from dyspepsia because indigestion Itself starves every organ and every nerve and fibre In the body. What Is needed is abundant nutri tion, not less, and this means plenty of good, wholesome, well-cooked food and some natural digestive to assist the weak stomach to digest it. This Is exactly the purpose for which Stuart's Dyspepsia Tablets are I adapted and this is the way they cure me worst case of stomach trouble. The patient eats plenty of whole pome food nnd Stuart's Dyspepsia Tab lets digests It for him. . And, this is In accordance with na ture and common sense because In this way the whole system Is nourished and the overworked stomach rested, because the tablets will digest the food, whether the stomach works or not. One of Stuart Dyspepsia Tablets will digest 1800 grains of meat, eggs and similar food. Any druggist will tell you that Stuart's Dyspepsia Tablets Is a rem edy of extraordinary value and prob ably is the purest and safest remedy for stomach troubles. No person suffering from poor diges tion and lack of appetite can fall to be Immediately and permanently benefited If they would make it a practice to take one or two of Stuart's Dyspepsia Tab lets after, each meal.
