Phillips, better known as the St. Louis
Kid, who left here some months ago
after trouble with the police, has
returned and says he desires it to be
come generally known that he is a dif
ferent sort of a man from what he
was when he went away. He has found
that it don't pay to be "tough." and
proposes to show by his future that he
acknowledges his errors of the past.
THE GOOD TEMPLARS The newly
elected officers of Garden Valley Lodge
No. 1, I. O. G. T., were' Installed last
night by Deputy Grand Chief Templar
J. O. Mullen of Tempe, assisted by
Mrs. Nettie Scott and J. G. Tinker as
Installing marshals. Those honored by

NEW PLEASURE RESORT.
For over a month workmen have
been engaged in preparing the base
ment under McKee's Cash store for
the purposes of a new pleasure resort
to be known as the Maple-leaf Bowling
alley and of which Lee It. Moore Is
the manager. This (Tuesday) afternoon
at 2 o'clock it will be opened to the
public and will hereafter be available
both daytimes and evenings for those
who love the sport or wish to learn
it. Everything will be conducted in
the most orderly manner, no rudeness
being ermltted. The manager will
strive to merit the patronage of ladies.
There will be no barroom attachment
or other objectionable feature. ThM
afternoon and evening all ladies and
their escorts are invited to come and
enjoy themselves free of charge.
Some of the rural editors are explicit
in their announcements to subscribers.
Here speaks one of 'em:
