C Meeker rea'd the Scripture fro:i First Timothy 3:14 to 4:8, and the pres bytery was led In prayer by Rev. II. M. Shields, after which Mr. Andrews san:i a very effective solo. "I Have Re deemed Thee." Rev. Dr. Thompson of rvew yorK c ity, seeretary or tne 1'ref b'yterian bea:! of home missions, was then introduced to preach the sermon of the evening1. He took for his text Second Timothy 4:6-8, "I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my ele parture Is at hand. I have fought a grod fight, I have finished my course. I have kept the faith: heneeforth there is liid tip for me a crown of righteous ness." He bexon by askinp, "What is time?" and save the answers that mifht be made by people in elifferent situations in life. The be-st of all is th ' by the greatest ef the sons of Apostle Paul. It w;s given lot we would call the brightest days of hi life, but when a prisoner in a Roman dungeon, his life was almwt done. "1 have fought a good fight. I have fin ished my course, I have kept the faith." What a past to look back upon. He had foughi out his battles with sin, and had conquered through Him that died for him. He had lived a strenuous life, and rejoiced in the privilege. He had fini3hed the course the Lord had marked out for him, and he had kept the faith which the Lord gave into his charge that wonderful day on the Damascus road. He had loved and lived and gloried In "the faith once de livered to the saints," and now hi? heart. toqk courage from what the Lord had already done for hi'm through thai faith to look forward to the glorious sunrise of the future-life. "Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown not simply of joy or glory but of righteousness." Paul wanted firsi and most of all to be right with God. Can we have any higher ambition than this? And now Paul, what of the pres ent? How his answer rings out over his chains and the damp, dnrk walls of his dungeon: "I am ready." This is the trua soldier's cry everywhere. He that has Paul's hope in his heart, is ready for anything. Let us be ready to live or die however or wherever or whenever the Lord shall call, and He will take care of the crown. I kno.v not when or how my Lord will eom, but "I know that His presence will lighten the gloom and that there will be glory for me." The choir sang an anthem following the sermon and preceding the ordina tion service. Dr. C. H. Ellis, who had been examined and licensed, was then called forward, and after answer ing the required questions from 'the moderator, 'was ordained by the laying cn of the hands of the presbytery, with prayer by Rev. Charles II. Cook, for thirty years a missionary to the Pima Indians, among whom Dr. Ellis is nov to labor. Rev. H. M. Shields delivered the chaYge to the newly ordained minister, earnestly enjoining upon him the sol emn duty and the glorious privilege of breaking the bread of life to those fcr. whom Christ has died.
