The musicians of Phoenix have sel dom bid such a treat as was afforded them last night by the organ recital of Dr. Minor C. Baidwin at the P'irst M. E. church. Fiom the first number to the (art the large audience was held spellbound. The numbe rs from 'Handel and rjc-h; wore given with skill and. delicacy of touch seldom equalled. The two pedal solos were marvels of mast erly ability. The two numbeis frcm Rossini were most strongly rendered. and the "Romance," by Gounrd, wa the most delicately beautiful thirg the writer has heard for many years.. The selection from Tannha.user was strong- j ly artistic, and showed the touch of the; master. Probably no number on tho ! programme ra; better appreciated1 than the descriptive solo, "The Storm In the Mountains," one of Dr. Bald win's comnositi.'.n?. The audience sat breathless while the magnificent tcne picture unfolded to their eager attention, and when it was finished they gave the soloist that most flattering of all praise a moment of lead silence before they broke into a. storm of applause. Handel's concerto nas given with great artistic effect. Dr. Baldwin gra ciously responded to several encores. among which he n!ayed upon the heartstrings of his hearers with the old time melody, "My Old Kentuckv Home." The programme was varied with two delightful readings by Mrs.- Ccoley. "The Sot of Turquoise" .nd "Diamond Cut Diamond." After the sece-nd num ber she gave as an encore. "The Man in the Itcon." Music lover:-, wfil be pleased to know that Dr. Baldwin will give a second re cital tonight and will probably repeat 'The Storm" by special requee-t. Dr. Baldwin complimented the mem bers of the church on their possession Of pj pipe organ Of Such macnifirrnt lone qualities. Don't forgot the bargain matinee to. day 'East Lynne," Tonight, "Capt. Impudence." u'liy an amateur would tell rt crirl she is the only one he ever loved. Philadelphia Record.
