There Is too apt to follow a merger' between a party and a cor poration, which. If not unlawful, ought to be unlawful. "This Is, however, only a part of the greater question the duty of putting an end to undue and illegitimate use of money In politics. That is, all con sidered, the burning question, and the least understood and most difficult problem of public life In (he United States." It Is evident fr6m the context that Mr. Williams thought he was attack ing the republican party, but his mo tive In .suggesting a law to prevent po litical contributiens by corporations is Immaterial; he touches upon an evil which is manifest to every thoughtful c itizen of the United States. And i whether Mr. Williams believes It or cot. It is true that the democratic party has profited quite as much from "campaign contributions from corpora- tions" as has the republican party. Ha i lays down a platform upon which all - parties ought to stand, and it would be enacted into law without delay I at the same time there could be a law protecting ccrporations from sand bagging at the hands of municipal, state and national lawmakers. . The swift pace of this shtll would be sufficient to girdle the earth in about ten hours. This pro jectile, after gting thirty miles, would have power enough left to penetrate s'.x inches of steel. This is the new rapid fire, six Inch P.rown wire tube gun, composed throughout its entire length solely of rolled stetl wire. It Is to be finished by May 1st and taken to Sandy Hock to be tested. Its completion, some ex perts say, will mark a memorable era in the system of artillery manufacture. and. owing to its solidity and alleged nonbui sting qualities, the great velo- ' city of its shell and Its stupendous range, hepes are bright that it will prove itself to be the most formidable death dealing engine of warfare in ex istence, and that the famous gun kings of Europe will be now outclassed by American Ingenuity in the production of a fighting machine far excelling than theirs.and begin to acquire vicious their latest weapons and almost double haD,ts- Their rarents let them do as In power and range those now in use they please and choose their own com In this country. The boys had read of hold-ups, and. ho Helm berger procured a revolver, ard with his companions started to rob some honest man. They found a customer in one grocery, so the proprietor ot that escaped. Then they entered Bal sano's store and ordered him to hold up his hands. On the first movement he made he was shot dead. There we have the development of the criminal and of the ciirr.e. Thesa street corner gnngs are all candidates for the Prison r the gallows. Not one in fifty of them will escape. By this plan any and almost every muscle of the body can be exercised and developed. One of the favorite and most ef ficient exercises for the arm which is specially renuired in the military is the open air fencing bout, with long lances of bamboo. CHANGE FOR MASS MEETING It Will be Held in Dorris Thta.tr la. stead of at Plaza. The Tonto road campaign committee met yesterday and decided that the mass meeting tc be held nex.t Tuesday evening should be In the Dorris thea ter instead of at the City Hall plaza, as had been previously planned. The change was made because of the un- certainty cause of of the weather and also be the greater conveniences at the theater and the fact that it will be easier to hear the speakers. The committee is planning to make the meeting a great success. It is to be called to crdti promptly at 7:30, but previous to that time the Pioneer bai:d will give a concert In front of the theater and there will be music throughout the evening. Invitaticr.s have been sent to the mayor and ccuncilmen of Tempe and likewise cf Mesa to attend the meeting and for the accommodation of the residents of thoKe two towns who de rire to attend the meeting the Mari ccpa and Phoenix railroad will run a special train, leaving Tempe and Mesa in time tc reach this cily before the opening of the meeting and returning after the meeting. A special rate will be charged for the trip. In discussing the meeting yestrrday the committeemen said they desired it understood that all were to be welcome and especially those who for one rea son or ancther oppose the proposed is sue of bonds for the construction of ' the Tontc road. If the opposers will ! come to the meeting, the committee ' desires that they enter into the discus sion or at least ask questions, thus bringing out all sides of the question and giving the committee an opportun ity tc correct mistaken ideas or thor les. The financial committee which has been soliciting funds to defray the ex penses of the campaign, completed Its work yesterday, having secured $300, which, it is believed, will be ample to meet all requirements. Reports from the registration clerks show that the registration is proceed ing rapidly and that fully CM persons have signed the roll. o . There was a dispute abcut this transaction and suit was brought cgpinst the administratrix. Judgment was obtained against her and the judgment was later satisfied by her successor.
