A welcome is also extended to the local unions of the county. THE BEST GRADE. A further an alysis of the sand rock and shale from ! the bottom of the Pinal Paraffine Oil company's Hackberry well shows that it contains five per cent, of the purest and highest paraffine wax. says the Florence Ulade. This settles beyond all question of doubt that if oil should be encountered in tae well in paying quantity it will be the highest grade para fine oil', which is worth about eight times as much in the market .as the ordinary fuel oil with an asphaltum base. THE ANDERSON CASE. This is the day set for the second trial of the case of Josiah Anderson charged w it'.i the killing of V.'illiam . Cameron at Agua Caliente nearly two years ago. The matter was presented to the net grand jury sitting after that tragedy, but no action was taken. The case came before the succeeding grand jury and an indictment was found. A con viction was obtained for manslaughter, but the supreme court at the last ses sion gianted a nev" trial. There was i-ome doubt as to whether the trial would take 'dace today. Several of tn-2 witnesses for the defense have not beca found yet. The trial of the case will probably be preceded by an argument on the question as to whether the de fendant can be tried for murder under the otisfinal indictment or whether he can be tried only for the ' offense fo. which he was convicted before. DOG DAYS. The dog days seem to have arrived here early this year. (!i Saturday a gentleiran who is visiting the city was walking clown Sout'i Third avenue with an umbrella above hi3 head. A dog that belongs to a wo man living in that vicinity saw him and in view of the fact that there was no rain in sight, concluded the um brella must be a joke so he ran aft;-r the man. The man thinking the do? was u vicious animal made a swipe with his parachute and during the succeeding moments it was a royal mixup resulting :n the ruin of the watershed. Yesterday complaint was made to the police who investigated the matter. The woman srid the clog v.as harmless and was only playing, tut she would nay for the umhreHl nevertheless. There- is another dog on West Adams street, a brindle bull dog, that has been conducting a guerilla, warfare against passers for some time, having a special spite for wheelmen. Yes'.erdey the police notified his owner that he imn t be restrained in his wild career or ballasted with lead. Still another dog abiding on Norths First street yesterday attacked a citizen in flicting a painful wound on one of hit legs for . the settlement of which inci dent negotiations are now under way. THE RECORDERS H IP. On June 16th it is expected the bond of Frank Thomas will be approved by the city council and the new recorder and po lice judge will be inducted into office forthwith whereupon W. C. Foster will begin shedding some of his mantles. It is getting too warm now for one tr be too heavily clothed even with au thority which is sometimes a light and airy fabric, lie considers that tlv; work of the olliee of city assessor and tax collector is a job for a grown man ami in addition thereto he has been recorder pro tern, member of the re publican central committee, director of the -city library, member of the Citi zens, waterworks committee and sec retary of l.e Gran Proveedora de Cobra Mining company. He has. therefore. been modest about slipping into the chair of police judge and has prevailed upon Justice Turnett to handle that BARGAINS IN Second Sand Typewriters. ALL MAKES. For Cash or on Time. PINAL OIL DISCOVERY It Is Believed That a Strilie Kas Been Made Near Mammoth. Mammoth. Ari;:.. May 5. (Special Correspondence of The Republican.) This town oij San Pedro is all a govt over oil "stiike." The Standard ( ;il man in the person of one "General Downev." has come and gone. His advent caused several large stories to j ilout arouiiil. These were :iiiled ;uil abetted by a goodly roll which he ('ashed upon occasions. At all events the general actually leased the ran'-'a of J. j. Clark and put up a nice cinink of the roil, and as the old adage says, money talks. But to retuvu to the strike. It trans pires that one Kd. 1'iady of P.akerstieid California, an expert in oil work .ml oil formation, came here tu sink an ar tesian well on thp ranch of J. .. Ilrown. Griatly to his surpiise and de light, when the pipes were sunk abooi forty feet, .nil :.nd gas began to ap-jjar at tlie surface. Every test known !. the business was made and all were 1 patisfac tory. It was o:!. the real old fa.-!;: -: petroleum, which refined we buy fro;:i that good man Mr. Rockefeller at heart-breaking prices. This happened late in '18'tC. Mr. Hrady depaited hence and form ed a company. This c-ompany has bui't a derrick, and everything 'being 'n icadiness the actual work of tiuing v.ill soon begin. In the meantime Mammoth holds its breath as does ev ery expert here and half of Ario::i. The land on both sides of the Sa:i Pedro for twenty mile.-! is taken ami , far back into the hill-'. Just h ov j far back, these embryonic- oil kings I blush to fuv. Further, it i.i saTe to record, t'.ian one who can throw an o'C i by the tail. Last evening a party cci:- f.isting of 12. W. C'.iilds. Judge Kigel and others returned from their claims back in the hills, and reported having traveled since dawn. The Judg- .ms worn nr.d sore from the journey out avows they have the claim.-, of the distric t. L'own the San Pedro, ten miles o so, about opposite the rr.outh of the Aravaip i. are great beds of gypsum, tvhieh Iiave also been located now that t!ie railroad is building. Also tip the Sail Ped.o peven miles or thereabout lies the larges st d?posit of diatomite, r. the world, many experts V or tripoiite, in say. This is a grayish, .'duty, massive eai tli. and it i:-. used as a polishing powder, for making bricks, and because of its poor c onductiv itv ty of heat. t; j light be adtiel pack boilers, etc. It mi that there is a mysterious connection, experts contend, between this diatomite and petroleum along the Texas coa-t. We hope the parallel holds goo 1 with us. At all events the San Pedro's stark mad over oil and oil formation. One hears it at the table, on the st table, on the street ti le saloons every- ,y corners and in th where. 1 he ranioad is temnoi a: i'.v forgotten. Everything b: but oil. i m; iijii t'.'iiiiit: uuwe ile-llLlOtr'i I j have been located by E. W. Ciilds and i others. Alex Parker of the .ravaipa, has just floated into town with some oli rock, shale lie calls it, which one of the experts pounded up and poured dope on. Large bubbles of eil came to the surface and Mr. Parker hug.-, his price. He has lots more of thi:.s preci ous rock and is all smiles as he s'io.vs his find. Beyond a doubt there is oil hz.c if it can hut be developed in paying quantities. MEN'S usfoii) Shir LET US REMIND YOU AGAIN te! THAT WE MAKE SHIRTS TO YOUR MEASURE IN ANY STYLE OR IN ANY QUALITY.
