T. E. Ewlng la strangely infatuated with his own wife, so much so that it was necessary to arrest him yesterday morning. The Ewings who came here last winter from Butte, Mont., do not float on the top wave of society. They kept house in the southern part of the city and one day notwithstanding his infatuation Swing gave his wife a beating and she ran away from home nnd took refuge in a lodging house. Soon after that Ewing left the city, went to Pre?cott and did not get back until yesterday morn ing. He Just could not stay away. He wrote to his wife and ence he tele graphed her some money. She refused to receive It and that was an intima tion to Ewing that their separation was permanent. But he made a test to see If a spark of love yet animated her breast. He got a friend to tele graph her that her husband had been kicked by a horse almost into eternity and that if she had any word to send to the hereafter by him she would have to hurry. She had been waiting for hi3 death and naturally wanted to witness that interesting event. She took the next train for Pres cott where her loving and de ceitful husband met her at the depot. She remained there a few days and then returned to Phoenix. Night before last Kwing telegraphed her that he was on the way and he asked her to meet him. She did not do so and Ewing having heard that she was stopping at the Lemon went there. He was informed that her room was No. 20. He went to the room found the door standing ajar and he entered but Mrs. Ewing was absent. She had been sufficiently warned by the tele gram. He stayed about the room and refused to leave and finally the officers were sent for. They had to threaten to break the door before he would ad mit them. Our next through sleeper for St. Louis leaves morning of June IB. L. II. LANDIS, General Agent S. P. P, & V. IRON AND STEEL TRADE Imports Cat in Two An Increase in Exports. Washington, June 14. The foreign trade in iron and steel will show in the fiscal year which ends with the present month a marked contrast com pared with that of last year. The Im ports of iron and steel in the fiscal year 1903 were the largest since 1891, and with the exception of that single year, the largest since 1883. In the lineal year 1904 they will be but about one-half those of 1903. During the ten months ending with April last th to tal imports amounted to but $23,075,084. as compared with $43,332,714 In the same period of last year. In practical-, ly all articles of iron and steel import ed there has been a marked reduction both in quantity and value aa com pared with 1803, , but this U most strongly marked in pig iron, which alone shows a reduction of more thai) $10,000,000, while steel ingots, blooms, and bars show a reduction of $3,000, 000. : . On the other hand, exports of Iron and steel show a material increase. In the ten months ending with April, 1904, the total exports of iron and steel, as shown by the reports of the depart ment of commerce and labor through its bureau of statistics, amount to $, 094,415 against $79,839,402 in the corre sponding months of the preceding year an increase of nearly $11,000,000; while the single month of April shows an Increase of about one and a half mil lions as compared with April, 1803. This suggests that the exports of Jron and steel In the full fiscal year will considerably exceed $100,000,000, though It is hardly prcbable that they will reach the figures of 1901, when the to tal was $117,000,000, or of 1900, when th total was $122,000,000. The principal Increases in iron and steel exports occur in billets, ingots, and blooms, which amount to nearly $2,500,000 in the ten months ending with April, 1904, as against but $65,174 in th same months cf last- year; steel rails, $1,800,107 in the ten months end ing with April, 1904, as against $665, 695 in the corresponding peiiod of last year; locomotives, $3,947,225 in Ih ten months of the present fiscal year, as compared with but $2,998,491 in the same period of last year; typewriters, which show an increase of about a hal million dollars, and firearms, an in crease of nearly a half million dollars In the ten months in question, as com pared with the ten months of the pre ceding year. In locomotives the chief increase is in shipments to Canada and Mexico. To Canada the Increase is about $600, CCO as compared with the ten months of last year, and to Mexico there Is an increase of about $150,000 as com pared with the ten months of 1903, and of over $700,000 ns compared with the corresponding perir.d of 1902. In steel rails the increase in the ten months as compared with the same period of last year is about $1,250,000. the shipments to Canada showing an increase of about $250,000. these to Mexico over $170,000, those to Japan $200,000, and those to "other Asia and Oceania" nearly a half million dollars. London, June 14. The Daily Mail's Tangier correspondent, urging French occupation as the only remedy for the serious Internal condition of Morocco, declares that a revolution is practical ly certain within a couple of months and that it will be supported by the entire educational class. The sultan's author' ty is virtually non-existent, he said, and until the country is occupied Europeans are on the edge of a volcano. Should France avoid her responsibility.
