The judges reported that Brian De
Bois Gilbert and Front De Beouf were
a tie but those two knights were willing-
to divide the prize between thein
and so the judges decided giving: the
third prize to Fitz Roberts. The prizes
were first prize. $5 second prize
and third prize. After the deci
sion of the contest the crowd dispersed

SHEEP DIPPING.
The sheep men are dipping their
sheep out northeast f Mesa under the
supervision of Dr. Layser of Kansas
City, who is in the employ of the gov
ernment. MESA MILLING CO. MEETING.
The stockholders of the co-operative
Milling company held a meeting yes
terday for the election of officers and
transaction of routine business.

George Scott left today with a load (
of supplies for the sheep camp east of J
Mesa.
THE TOGGERY.
The Toggery opened yesterday with a
clean, up to date line of gents fur
nishings. This store is first class and
the proprietor has spared no means in
fitting up the place and desires the
patronage of the Mesa people.
TWINS ON ROOSEVELT STREET.
The storks are traveling in pairs on
Roosevelt street. Some time ago they
visited the residence of George Klls
worth ard presented them with a fine
pair of girl babies so while the people
of Mesa where celebrating May day
the storks visited Artimus Milieu's
residence and left a fine boy and girl.
The mother and babies are doing nicely
and Mr. Millett is planting another j
row of corn and spuds prosperity i- j
here.

Charlie Mullen has purchased a bt
north of Phil Mets' livery stable and!
will erect a sheet iron ui to date';
blacksmith shop.
FLAG POLE.
Jesse Steele is erecting a flag pole nn
the roof of the Code building in which
the government has their offices.
NEW SIGN.
Ilibbert Eros., the liverymen, are
having a new sign painted on the front
of their new brick building with a
sketch of a horse of life size.
PERSONALS.
Mr .Fenner, manager for the PI in 11
Lumber Co., returned yesterday from
a trip to Roosevelt.
Jack Krasier. proprietor of the Fish
Creek hotel, is in Mesa today.
F. T. Pomeroy of the firm of Pomeroy
Bros. & Kelly, was a Phoenix visitor
yesterday.
Mr. Akin of Phoenix passed through
Mesa yesterday for his home having
made a trip to Roosevelt and return.
William Kimball returned yesterday
with a party of three whom he took
to the Tonto dam for an outing.
Grant Jones of Tempe was a Mesa
visitor yesterday.
W. T. Smith of Los Angeles is stop
ping at the Alhambra. Mr. Smith is
here in the interest of C. R. Eager &
Co., who have the oil contract.
John Anderson and Will Dorman
were visitors at the Capitol yesterday.
