Adjutant General Leavell has gone to I3isbee to muster in, on May 23, a company of the national guard there, to be known as E. company. There is another company in process of forma tion at Prescott which will be mus tered in- before the time for holding the next encampment which will prob ably be in the early part of August. That will be the maximum strength of the national guard under the terri torial law, ten companies, two troops of cavalry and a regimental band. There is enough money to the credit of the national guard to enable it to hold an encampment of two weeks and under the Dick law the time of the members will not be entirely lost. It would not, however, be lost anyhow, but much would be learned in camp of the duties of guardsmen which could be acquired in no other way. But many of the members could not afford 3S 2 EE We now occupy large and commodious quarters where we have plenty of storage room. International STOCK FOOD for CftLVES. Corporals will receive $1.50 a day and sergeants $1.60. The encouragement granted the na tional guard under the Dick law is be ing felt in all parts of the country and members are taking much more inter est. They are beginning to feel that they are a part of the army establish ment. It was high time jthat such a law should be passed for the national guard had existed until 1902 under a law which had been on the statute books for 109 years and which required among other things .that each member should provide himself with "a musket and at least two flints." The members of the Arizona National Guard were in constant violation of this law. Not a member of it ever provided himself with -two flints or even one. A great deal of attention will be paid to target practice at the coming encampment. All the members will "shoot out their strings" and out of the whole guard there will probably bo selected a team of six to attend the national shoot at Sea Girt which will be held under .the provisions of the Dick law. There are already some very fine marksmen in the Arizona national guard, and it is believed that a team from this territory would give a good account of themselves at Sea Girt. The shoot will te held beginning Au gust 24. The encampment here will probably be held early- enough in the month to give the team time to reach Sea Girt. o . ' ' Coronado climate best in the world.
