The Prairie will bring him back to the United States by a route to be se lected by him so it fs possible that the secretary' may find it expedient to vis It San Juan or Havana, or both on his way back home. The present expec tation is that the sercetary will return possibly as early as May 20. He may land at Pensacola. The life saving crew of Zachs inlet. Fire Island, launched a surf boat in a tumbling sea late tonight in a desperate effort to reach a vessel firing signals of dis tress from the bar outside the inlet. The life savers were unable to reach their goal. The vessel lies well off the shore and cannot be reached with guns. The I revenue cutter Mohawk put out late j tonight and expected to be alongside i the f raft in time to remove the crew if necessary.
