SANITARIUM Now That the Project Originating in Phoenix Gives Promise of Sue cess. The business men of Albuquerque are trying to steal from Phoenix the printers' sanitarium for members of the I. T. U. who are suffering from lung and throat troubles. It is true that Phoenix has not got the sani tarium yet, but there is little doubt that it will be located here if the union receives a little local encour agement. The project had its origin anion? the printers of Phoenix and it was suggested to them by the large num ber of printers who came here an nually for relief from troubles of the respiratory organs. In many cases these invalids were without means and so they became a burden upon the local members of the craft. The Phoenix local began an agi tation pf the subject of a sanita rium more than a year ago and the matter was presented to the general meeting of the I. T. U. at Hot Springs, Ark., by J. A. Ball, the del egate from the local union, last sum mer. It was not expected that early action would be taken and the sub ject was offered as food for thought for a year. In the meantime a great deal of In terest has been aroused in the pro ject, which has been favorably re celved everywhere within the union. The journals of the order have rec ommended it and high officials have promised to give it favorable consid eration at the forthcoming meeting. It is confidently believed by the printers of this territory that the sanitarium will be ordered and a large delegation to the general meeting will go from the Arizona locals. The only argument the people of Albuquerque have to offer for the lo cation of the sanitarium there is the forwardness of the business men of that place. Albuquerque has hitherto taken no interest In the matter. In fact that town was not represented at the general meeting of the L T, U. a year ago when the subject was first brought up. At the meeting this year there be a large representation from the Duke City. That town in order to succeed in landing the sanitarium will have to submit a most flattering offer of some kind, for the officers of the I T. U. are already predisposed in favor of the Salt River valley, the fame of whose climate as a restorer of lost lungs has spread widely. The activity of Albuquerque having been brought to the notice of the local union, at a meeting yesterday a committee was appointed to pre sent the matter to the board of trade to see what encouragement can be lent by that body to the movement The members of the committee are G. W. Brown, F. O. Adams and J. A. .Ball. o Buy Cobralla Preferred 8 per cent. Sunday morning, June 17th, before the communion service Rev. Henry Martyn Campbell preached from the text, "The same night in which he was betrayed," leing a part of the zsra verse or the 11th chapter or First Corinthians. I The 8eaker said In part: I What a wonderful, wonderful night that was. I am sure that I am safe In saying that there never was such a night when we look upon it in the light of its tragedy, and we are glad to shrink back from the thought of it until we are led to think of the other side and then we say, Never night so bright and so joy ous because of all it signifies to us.' j There are periods in the world's his tory that are decisive, but I think there is no period so great as the night in which our Lord Jesus Christ was betrayed. j As we read the text there are in our hearts' feelings of sorrow and feelings of joy. Joy that we are 'cleansed from our sins. Sorrow tbjit .' it .was our sins that nailed Him to the tree. Have I be trayed my -Lord? Another lesson that we should take from the thoughts that gather about that last night is the absolute impossibility of keeping ourselves from the sin of the world. If we put our hands In His, If we trust ourselves to Him, He will help us overcome. In that supper room 'on the night In which He was betrayed,' the Mas ter uttered the tender and beautiful words of the fourteenth, fifteenth, sixteenth and seventh chapters of John, beginning. 'Let not your heart be troubled.' To the saddened disci ples He promised the Comforter who would abide with them always. Then turning His thoughts to God, He prays for all those whom the Father has given Him from the , world. Christ's intercessory prayer includes in a wonderful manner all the pray ers He uttered as they have been recorded for us. There has never been a voice in heaven or In earth more sacred, more sublime, more fruitful than the voice that we hear in this prayer of the Lord Jesus Christ for His disciples. His prayer is not for those particular disciples alone, but for all who should believe on His name through them. This prayer was uttered at a time when we could hardly expect Him to think of us but only of the cross and Calvary before Him. I have known those who, when trouble came, forgot God and ceased to pray. In the light of the exapmle of the Master what a mistake they made. God help us to learn the lesson that we should pray not only -when the sun shines but also when the rain falls and trou ble comes. The story Is told of a little girl in Africa who, when the opportunity was given opportunity to give to the Master, having nothing In her poverty to give, sold herself as a slave and came and laid on the altar of Christ the price of her liberty She gave herself to Him. Should we do less than give ourselves to Him? Let us go forth gladly, willingly at His command as He speaks to us as to His disciples of old. "Feed my lambs. Feed my sheep." FIGS AND BEETS. Mrs. H. Schra der who lives four miles northeast of town on Saturday brought to the board of trade as fine a lot, of black figs as anybody ever saw anywhere. They will have a place of honor in the record book and in the fruit exhibit. A. J Renn of Peoria brought to the board of trade on Saturday also a sugar beet nineteen and a half Indies long that weighs eight and a half pound. The only trouble with It is that it is too big for the best sugar purposes, though it makes a fine exhibit. How ever they do not all grow so large as that o 1 TEA Why isn't everything moneyback?
