Whatever might have been the de sires of various groups of republi cans previous to the national conven tion, there is only one desire now and that Is the election of Taft and Sher man. There were honest differences of opinion of the degrees of availa bility of the several candidates be fore the convention. There was never a belief anywhere that Mr. Taft was not available and the convention proved that it was the overwhelming belief of republicans that he was the most available. He was the one candidate on whom the whole republican party could unite. But after all there has never" been a wide division of beliefs" within the republican party though there have been two well defined opinions of processes for putting policies into effect. The whole country Is familiar with the views of Mr. Taft and the whole, thls here Aunty-Injunckshun Plank is country, that Is the republican part ; a Delooshun. an a Snair. The California Restaurant In the midst of the convention news there was sandwiched In one night the statement that the body of Mrs. Gunness had been taken to Chicago for burial. The name seem ed strangely familiar, yet . it was some time before it could be identi fied with a former resident of La Porte, Ind., who only a few weeks ago filled the public eye and the front page. Alas! what after all is fame ? I The republican party, says Mr. Bryan, is "in full retreat." We are inclined to think that on the morn nig after the November election, Mr. Bryan, when he views his mangled political remains, will more than ever think that the republican party was in full retreat and that he was trampled under foot in the retrograde movement. Many a household has its angel. Though she stoops to earthly cares; Many a sister, many a mother, Is an angel unawares. Her's the hand to sooth the pillow Of the patient sufferer's bed, Her's to plant the weeping willow O'er the dear departed head. Her's to speak In words of comfort To the weary troubled mind, Till its murmur joins in concert With the gentle summer wind. j Her's the ear to listen, patient To the wretched tale of woe Till the wind becomes unburdened Ere It knows what made it so. Her's the look that oft checks anger Speaking more than words can tell, Her's the smile that ever with it; Carries such a magic spell. Her's the heart that's ever open Both to Joy and sorrow call. Waiting ready to receive them With a sympathy for all. Till the atmosphere around her Seems to fill with quiet peace Bidding every noise and tumult Every angry murmur cease. Thus it is there houshold angels Bless our homes from day to day . But we know not how we need them Until they are called away. Then we miss the hand so gentle, Then we miss the look so kind. Then we miss the voice so cherry That bespoke the happy mind But we feel they still are near us Watching o'er us every day. Seems to soothe the saddest sorrow And chase half the grief away.
