A news story this morning regard ing the preparations at Castle Hot Springs for the coming season brings to mind this most delightful of win ter resorts which annually attracts large numbers of people across the continent those who want rest rath er than recreation mingled with ex . citement, for there is no more rest ful spot on earth. The energy and ingenuity of man has converted one of the most picturesque nooks of the picturesque west into an abode of luxury unsurpassed by the most fa mous resorts of the old and new world where luxury is the sole and only attractive feature. There is about Castle Hot Springs a curiously mingled Isolation and ac cessibility. Situated amid the heart f wild mountain grandeur it is reached by a twenty-four mile moun tain road, the best in the west, every mile a delight to the traveler and the sightseer. Vistiors to the springs experience a curious sensation as they sweep about a curve at the end of a jour ney on which they have seen no hu man habitation -and come Into" full view of a magnificent hotel with all the accessories of the metropoli tan hostelry, surrounded in the val ley by trees and shrubs of semi tropical growth and in the near dis tance by rugged mountains. There . is said by travelers to be nothing else like it. Its charm is so great that year after year visitors are drawn back to it, the charm strength ening with each repetition of their coming. Then, there are the springs of sparkling health inspiring warm waters whose curative properties have been attested by thousands. Castle Hot Springs is generally al luded to as a winter resort, though a residence there at any season of the year Is delightful. Years ago, be fore any of the modern comforts and luxuries were installed, it was the practice of many families of the valley to seek the cool recesses of Castle Creek where they found rest and peace which were denied their neighlKirs who made long journeys to the seaside. An Indian infant was awarded a prize at a Los Angeles baby show the other day. We'd like to see the rest of the entries and to have seen their doting mothers when the award was announced. The Los Angeles newspapers which conceal facts re garding earthquakes and other local disasters are silent concerning the subsequent riot. My I'aw was a talkin to his self an' he sez: "It's been reiwirted at Pollytix makes strange Bedfellers an' it mite 'a' been added 'at Wunst in ji While a feller gets Kicked out of bed in a most Unacountiblo Manner. "Paw," I asts, "What's Worry In you.' an he rephze: Oh, nutmn James, I was jist a Roominatin' about how Mister Canning got Stab bed in th" house of Former Krends today." "How was it?" I ast. "My Paw he sez: "It was this away: Mister Canning he went to th' Republican Committy meeting to take posseshun. The Cheernian lie sez to th' Surgeon at Orins 'Whose this here Feller? His face looks fer- milyer to me but he aint none of us What's he doin' here?' "Mister Canning he waves Proxy in th' Air and sez 'Here's my Credenshles. This is th' same Time Tride Ole Proxy 'at I used when helped you sot down on Ned Cray ton and' when I assisted you to Kick Jorge Mock out of th' Commit ty. What's th' matter with this here Proxy now ?' J n proxy s Kcgler enurr sez th' Cheermen, 'but th' Holder of it's at Folt. They's a Rool of this Com mitty 'at a Proxy aint Eljible 'less its held by a Member of th" Com mitty. You aint no Member.' " 'I wasn't no member of it before when me an' this here Proxy Per formed Valyant Service in Puttin' th' other Fackshun to Flite.' Jiut limes is ciiangea also, sez th Cheerman; 'They aint no other fackshun now. Th' Regler Commit' can do all 'at's nessary to be done. You an' your Proxy's Sooperflus jist now. "Mister Canning went out and sez 'at th' Republican Party's jist been disrupted agin at a Criticle Moment an' 'at it's made possible th Eleekshun of Willyum J. O'Brien." "Do you think 'at they's any sich Purl as that?" I ast my Paw. "Oil, I don't know," he Replize; but I don't think 'at th' Action of th' Committy Strengthened th' Chanst of Mister Taft none. Harmony is a very Tender Plant an' any thing like that's lible to Sunt its Groath. It don't help what we French calls th' 'Spree de Core' fer Committymen to knock each other Around an' kick wun a nuther out of th' Door. Th' Committy was actin' too much like ole Castro down in Venzooly, a le mamliu' th' Exequattors. whatever they are, of all th' Furrin Counsuls. Th' Committy was rite enuff but I don't think it was good Pollytix fer to take Mr. Canning's Exequattor away frum him." "I think it was a Outrage," I sez. They let him an' Others hold their Exequattors or whatever you call 'em, at th' other Meetin'. Why ort ent they do it agin?" My Paw he sez: "Th' Committy was all rite accord in' to Rool. They had a rite to 'spend th' Rool wunst like they did th' other time, but only Wunst Th' Rools in Pollytix in some Respex is like th' Rools of th' Grate American Indoor Game of Poker. Fer instance, they's a Rool in Poker 'ut a certain Hand may be Counted wunst in a nite. It's called in some Seckshuns of th' country a 'Lallycooler' an' in other seckshuns, a 'Lallypaloosy.' They're very keerfle not to overwork th' Lallycooler' an' that's why Plairs aint encouraged to fall into th' hab it of holdin' 'em offen. "Now, a Proxy in th' hands of a Outsider is a 'Lallycooler' or 'L-illy- paloosy.' It was all rite fer Mister Canning an' everybody else to hold 'em at that first meetin'." "Don't Mister Canning know about that 'Ialiycooler' Rool?" I ast. "Mebby not" sez my Paw; "some body ort to tell him; it mite make him Harmonyous agin."
