THE ARIZONA REPUBLICAN 3IOXDAY 3IOKMX(i, 1)1 CIHIItEK T, 1908. BANQUET TO PROSPERITY ! NDIAMOND&BRO. ))) id Dy PHOENIX, ARIZ. Festive Occasion Arranged by: Board of Trade LET THE PEOPLE REJOICE Then Let Them Get Busy and Co-operate in Making the Present Prosperity More Expansive and Perpetual. The general good fe. ling in tin- Salt river valley and the prosperity which everyone is beginning to .share, has been recognized hy the board of trade in a call which i.s now issued fur a "Prosiierity" dinner to lie held at Melcz.-r's hall at 6:30 o'clock Friday evening iKc.inbor 11. The dinner is not to be a mere celebration for self congratulation, though tliat feature of it will be somew hat apparent . and is fully warranted. The board however, has no time to celebrate anything, just for the fun of the function. It al ways has a motive behind its acts and a worthy one. This time the motive i to make the present prosperity perma nent anil of daily increasing ratio. The secret of accomplishing that re sult, as has been demonstrated hern so often, is the cooperation, not of a few leaders alone but of all the leo ple. The invitation to the baniniet ties-, rre w ill n.it be a card affair. Tins announcement may be considered as official and every reader is invited if l.e measures up to -the requirements hereinafter recited. There are two of them, one is that he must be a decent citizen who would he willing to see the town prosjier and who if not already helping to encourage prosperity by Word or deed, will be willing to help when somebody wakes him up. The other requirement is that he have a dollar. I'y decent citizen i.s meant anybody who is honest, industrious, ambitious, and sufficiently well ordered to hold the respect of his neighbors. ISy the dollar is meant that the banquet is to be paid for when it i.s eaten. The board of trade has no money to s nd for fun. but it is believed that every person who attends will get a dollar's worth of good out of the splendid music CHILDREN'S CURLY SKIN COATS BEAR Are all the rage now ami we have them in white, champagne, red and blue. A number of men well known throughout the territory will make addresses. The full ist of speakers, and other details will be pub lished shortly. To be more explicit, this movement is designed to emphasize these Huts that lasting prosperity w ill' affect every res ident and to produce It every resident must cooperate; that the work of the board of trade is not merelv to boom Phoenix, but to boost the whole valley; that in speaking of community Interest there is no reference to corporation lines; that reference to "all good citi zens" does nt mean al'.ne the men who hold office, draw a salary or settle a pay pdl; that it applies with equal force to the farmer who is his mm hir d mail as well as the one win hires a number of them; that it means the mechanic and the artisan who is good for so many dollars a day in his over alls, so long as he lives here and wants to boost the valley; that it moans the man who runs a fruit stand, a restau rant or a job a','iin, just as much as it does the druggist or the dry goods merchant. It means that the board of trade has done a lot of g 1 for every body in this valley and that it can do ten times as much more if the people wtth cooperate w ith It. It means that every man who i.s able to sleep under bis own roof, and a lot of them who are not. should hold a board of trade imni b rship and that it would be money well invested for them to do so. Having these things In mind the banquet has been arranged for the purpose of getting all these people to g. ther and talking w ith them more comprehensively, the Ideas set forth above, giving tltem the worth of their money and demanding of them no ob ligation while doing so. To that end nothing will be said or done to em barrass anybody There is no desire to exclude dress suits, providing they do not wear them on that occasion, unless it chances to be somebody w ho has nothing else. If worn, however, they will be decidedly out of style for the time being. Husitiess clothes will be .the voijue. It i.s not planned for either a dress occasion or a tacky party. The Isame clothes will be appropriate that one wears when he goes to pay his I taxes or attend a water meeting. The 'truth is that clothes make mighty little ( difference outside of a swell social function, but a lot of people who com ! prise the backbone of the country i through their pr jndi. e think they do, and this un.Urstanding is made plain out of def rence to those prejudices. IJust now the board of trade wants to talk business with the backbone of the country and with every connecting rib ti lie found in its structure. The board expects an attendance of 3ml people, a large percentage of whom reside outside the corporation limits of this town. It would be still better pleased if 5"0 respond to this invita tion, but it will be necessary to know just how many may be depended upon in order to make the proier prepara tion for their entertainment. To se cure this data, every person who de : ir. s to attend this banquet, is re- I quested to call at the board of trade jro.un not later than Thursday evening and declare himself. The spirit of ppvperity is fn the air land this action the board of trade is particularly proper at this time when on to interfere I there is nothing going 1 with it. Rvery "live one" should put his feet under the Prosperity Banquet table. COFFEE Three-quarters of coffee is such that we can't touch it; we make five grades of the top quarter.
