SELLS RESIDENCE IN BRILL ADDITION The Valley Realty and Trust company were the agents for the sale of a residence in the Brill ad dition to Mrs. Isabel Grissinger. The former owner was Mrs. Sarah Taylor. MR. AND MRS. ROGERS HOME Mr. and Mrs. William Coleman Rogers returned yesterday from their honey moon trip to New York and will be at home at the Roekweil and Rogers orange grove. "MR. DAVIE HOME R. P. Davie returned yesterday from a Dusiness trip to Lob Angeles and will remain in the valley during the time of the work ing of the sugar beet factory at Glen dale. , RAILROAD MEN HERE M. F- Van Horn and Edwin Linthicum, represen tatives of the Pennsylvania railroad in Southern California, who have been In city looking after business for the past several days, left last night for Los Angeles. MINING ACTIVITY W. E. Defty returned yesterday from Pinal and Gila counties, where he went to make an examination of mining properties. He says there is a very pronounced and growing activity in mining in those counties, notwithstanding,' the hot season of the year is now at hand. AMATEUR NIGHT AT COLISEUM The amatuer bill at the Coliseum tomorrow night, promises to be great, several names being registered that guarantee, something doing. The regular bill will be carried out in connection with the special amatuer stunt. HEGIRA REALLY BEGINS The new Pullman service Which the South ern Pacific inaugurated last night on iits train to the coast was timely. The two cars were all taken and the num ber of people who left last night for the coast or the mountains seems , to indicate that the annual hegira has begun. A WESTERN COMPANY F. M. Czarnowski has returned from Los An geles, where he went on business In connection with the Pacific Slope Se curities company, with which he is now connected as general agent. The company is strictly a coast organiza tion and a new one and its business is that of insurance,' taking risks on ac cidents to human beings and to ma chinery, or, in other words( the com pany will take almost any kind of a risk except against fire and death by natural causes, as it Is not a fire or life company. The capital stock of the company is $500,00, shares of a par value of 1 per share though the stock Is now being sold at 32.50 per share. The stockholers already number many hundreds and among them are quite a number of Phoenix citizens. Five thousand shares is the utmost limit of any one man's holding. Mr. Francis is engaged In the sheep business arid has a large num ber of sheep which .. have summer range In the vicinity of Flagstaff. - MORENO SECURELY HELD Car los Moreno, the man who sold whiskey to the Apache, Sidney Smith, firing him for the outrage upon the little 18-months-old baby daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elijah Allen near Lehi on Mon day afternoon, was given a preliminary examination before Commissioner Johnstone yesterday morning and he was held to the grand Jury in the sum of $800. There is no doubt that Moreno will be present when the grand Jury convenes next fall. Joe Howard, the other Apache, the principal wit ness againet Moreno, was discharged at the close of the hearing. I. O. F. TO CELEBRATE The In dependent Order of Foresters are to have a rousing Fourth of July cele bration at East Lake park Monday, July 5th. The real kind, with a greased pole, potato, tub, fat man's, lean man's, and all other, kjnds of races, with prizes, that are typical of the old fashioned "fourth." No place offers a better environment for on event of this kind than Eastlake park with its dancing pavilion, lawns, grand stand for a ball game, race track, and chances for boating. It is understood there Will be a ball game, band concert, dance music in the evening, and probably fireworks. Arrangements have been made so special service on the street car line can be had, as late as necessary. Be cause of several celebrations that will be held in this vicinity on the fourth, the Forester's gala day will be placed on Monday July 5th. The idea will be to have an all day picnic, every one bringing his lunch, using the tables that will be provided for them, and for those who do not care to bring their lunch, refreshment stands will be located on the grounds. Spe cial rates will probably be made on the railroads, and all in all, it prom ises to be a big day, with lots of "good times" for those who take ad vantage of the opportunity. Several extra special attractions are being negotiated for including a vaudeville performance, a good ball game and fire works. There will be no admis sion to the grounds, but the pro ceeds to the ball game will be given over to such expenses as the I'nion Court Hassayampa No. 1618, I. O. F. will have to make. This is an event of the week that is always looked forward to by those who have once attended them. It means, good rnuFic, fine dancing on the ejegant pavilion floor, a boating, and a moonlit walk through the shadowy pathways of the park. SURVEYING PUBLIC LANDS The surveyor general during the pres ent fiscal year has awarded contracts for the surveying of public lands, un der the regular appropriation for that purpose, amounting to $22,000 and to the amount of $15,000 under appropri ations made by railroad companies owning public lands. Yesterday an nouncements were made of the award ing of two contracts under the regular appropriation and two under raifroad appropriations. The regular contracts .were as follows: To J. F. Hesse of Phoenix. $"n00 for the surveying of seven townships, full and fractional, in the northern part of the territory. This contract also includes a part of the township in which the town of Wln kelman is situated. To Jesse TQ. Wright of Tucson for surveying four townships in the southeastern counties of the territory at an estimated cost of $2500. The railroad lands to be sur veyed are at the request of the St. Louis and San Francisco railroad company. One contract is to William B. Alexander of Tucson for surveying six full townships south of Kingman for $6500. The other is to Fred W. Rodolf of Phoenix for the surveying (if four townships, also south of King man.
