Mr. Lafever married a uaugnter of A. L. strait two years ago. i HERE FROM LOS ANGELES Mabbett Sutton, a prominent mining operator of Los Angeles, was In Phoe nix yesterday to attend a meeting of mining men and also to look after In terests of the Big Stick Mining com pany of Jerome. He will probably make a trip to Jerome before return ing to Los Angeles. FLACK-FYSON Phoenix friends have received word of the marriage of Carl Fluck and Miss Jennie Kyson. last Thursday In Los Gatos, California. MIks Fyson lived In Phoenix for about three years and was a well known stenographer, having served in the of fice of the territorial fair association at one time. Mr. Flack also resided here for a time. WATER AND CANALS The water In the canals will be the same today as yesterday. The Arizona and Salt will be running and the other two will be dry. The supply In the river is again shrinking a little. The level at Roosevelt yesterday was one-tenth of a foot lower than last week, or 109.4. The flow In the Verde at Rich ins station has shrunk perceptibly. HERE FROM BUCKEYE John Knight of Buckeye was in Phoenix yesterday looking after personal busi ness matters and matters pertaining to the new Liberty district consoli dated school which will soon be built. It will be remembered that Liberty district consolidated school will be the first instance in the his tory of the territory of school dis tricts consolidating for a graded school. HERE FROM WINKELMAN Mr. i Hegvall of Winkelman was in Phoe-'i nix yesterday looking after a large gold shipment. He returns home this morning. JAIL WELL FILEED The vacant spaces in the city jail over Sunday and yesterday were not predominating, in fact the jail held more than the aver age number of drunks. SPENT SUNDAY IN PRESCOTT J. Fred Cleaveland, secretary to Gov ernor Sloan, spent Sunday In Pres cott In conference with the governor, returning yesterday morning. FOR FLAGSTAFF A. L. Strait went to Flagstoff Sunday, taking charge of a car load of sheep for Basley Bros. He will spe-nd some time there on his vacation, which has been well earned. FIND RUBY RING The police are in possession of an elegant ruby ring, probably belonging to some young lady of wealth. It waa found several days ago and can be had by being identified at the police station. A BUCKEYEITE William Bruner of Buckeye came to Phoenix yesterday on business matters and to visit with friends. He stated that Buckeye has not been In a better condition In every way for several years. IS HAPPY A. A. Betts of the Santa Fe office, who has left for his summer ration on a trip covering almost the entire west, writes from Inglewood, Cal., that he is happy and is so near to San Bernardino and the Harvey meals that he hates to leave. BACK TO OLD PHOENIX Mr. and Mrs. C. J. LaFever, baby daughter, Harriet, and sister. Miss Oca LaFever. arrived on an early train yesterday from Nebraska on a visit to Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Strait, the parents of Mrs. LaFever. It Is likely that they will de cide to make Phoenix their home. Mrs. LaFever prefers Phoenix to windy Nebraska. THEY MIXED The police were called to Fast Buchanan street Mon day morning to quell a mix up between two Mexican women and a man. THEY FOUND SLUG An ugly looking leaded slug, nicely woven over with fish line, was found on the city hall grounds early yesterday morning, probably having dropped out of the pocket of some degenerate bent on get ting money without having to do man ual labor for it. The Instrument, that Is not at all an innocent looking affair, shows that the owner has spent much time in making It, and that It has seen real service. There are blood marks and the netting over it to keep the In strument from making a loud thud when applied to a cranium Is greasy and polished smooth from constant handling. It Is a work of art from the hands of a heinous criminal, who would better be dead than alive for all the good that he will ever do his fellow men. VICTIM OF BOOZE A man giving his name as Henry Fairhammer was picked up yesterday for the third or fourth time In the last six months by the police and talks in a rambling con dition about a number of Germans up at Prescott seeking to avenge them selves up6n him for something that he doesn't know about. Fairhammer hears things that he can not express and tells the police that the sheriff at Prescott can tell all about it. He has been In this vicinity for the last fif teen years or more and has a rA,mta tion for an abnormal appetite for strong drink, being arrested frequently. Of late it Is noticed that his mind is affected and that every time he is caught and held by the authorities he tells queer stories of thing supernatu ral and of heinous persecutions.
