EYE WITNESS OF (Continued from Pase One) As the officer fell, the half awakened man noticed the victim of the police man's bullet, start to crawl toward a car and evidently made his way under it. The others ran toward the west and disappeared. It was at this point that the witness of the tragedy states he began to real ize that his presence at the point might be hard to explain and he proceeded to get out of the locality as quickly as possible. He says he ran to Central avenue, then North to Jackson street and back to the front of the Star Idging House, seating himself on a bench and being there when the police arrived. There is a continuity of detail which tends to strengthen the belief that the man actually did witness the killing and is endeavoring to give a clear story of his recollections of the affair. He is not under arrest, but is said to be where the sheriff can put his hands on him the moment he is needed. The arrest of Verdugo and his lodge ment in the city jail was made in order that Chief of Police A. J. Moore might have opportunity to learn some facts as to his whereabouts the night of the murder. He is known to have been as sociating with Garcia, the alleged mur derer of Harris, and an effort will be made to show that he was with him on Saturday night. Garcia was removed from the warm cell in the county jail, yesterday to a room on the second floor of the court house where he can be constantly tin der guard and where he can receive the attention necessary to pull him through Dr. H. K. Beauchamp and Dr. C. B. Palmer visited him twice yesterday and dressed his wounded leg. There is still a question as to the possibility of sav ing his leg. It was thought yesterday that some circulation was. discovered in the lower part of the leg and as the discoloration has not increased there is still hope that the limb may be saved.
