Arrival by auto Sunday of a prominent Tuc son banker and capitalist with a party of friends started the rumor that one of Tucson's banks was ar- j ranging for the starting of a branch bank in Casa Grande. S. S. Morgan, 1 a Texas banker, spent several days j looking over the banking situation, and was favorably impressed. He left for Phoenix Friday, thence on to the coast and expects to return to Casa Grande before the rush this fall. Alf. G. Wilcox, a recent arrival from Southern California, is prepar- ing to open a photo studio. The mercantile house of Joe Ar menta, one of the largest business houses in Casa Grande, made exten sive alterations during the past week and the store room has been increas ed to twice its former size. Goods arriving every day show that this enterprising firm expects a busy fall. Sunday the Sacaton Indians de feated the Casa Grande Browns and the crowd attending the game at the ball grounds were as fine an aggre gation of enthusiastic ball fans as one would see anywhere. Next Sun day the local nine expects to play ball al around the redskins but some say ,-it can't be did." Wayland Wood, of the Arizona Mo tor Co., of Phoenix, motored down to this coming city last Thursday.. What Mr. Wood saw while here caused him to remark that a Studebaker ag ency carrying a full line of the pop ular autos and accessories would have a place on our business directory before long. Early this week another big well drilling outfit arrived in Casa Grande and went out into the valley under its own power. This makes eight outfits now operating in this field and another is on the way from Coalinga, California. Lots in the new townsite are chang ing hands every day and it will only be a short time before they are all sold. Phoenix and Mesa people during the past week came down and acquir ed land in this vicinity. Drummers arrive on every train. Someone must have told them there was something doing in Casa Grande. The Colton Hardware Co., operat ing one of the finest sheet iron works on the Pacific coast at this point with an equipment capable of turning out any kind of work, ami also build tanks ranging from 5 gallons to 50,000 gal lons are busy with new orders. They have another carload of machinery on the way and state their equip ment will be doubled within the next sixty days. The plant as it now stands is a revelation to the visitor to Casa Grande and it is a forcible advertsement of what is taking place in the development of the valley. The McFate Iand Co. has a deal on with California parties which when culminated will mean the ar rival of a large number of settlers in the valley. This realty company is in daily receipt of many inquiries and it keeps the force busy sendng out information. The greatest need of Casa Grande fit present is accommodations for the families arriving and houses for rent for the people who wish to make homes here. Money invested in the building of houses is a good specula tion for the demand for renting pro perty will be great. A great many people now camping and sleeping out will be looking for rooms when the first breath of winter sweeps over the plateau. R. C. Brown, representing the Tuc son Citizen, spent Wednesday and Thursday here looking after the in terests of his paper. Mr. Brown has owned four lots in Casa Grande for twenty-five years. He forgot that he was a property owner in this place until he heard there was a prospect of a boom before many moons and now he is pleased that he got in on the ground floor before there was any need for a ground floor pro position. Messrs. Coleman and Maricopa Slim were granted a saloon license at Florence Friday and they will open for business in Casa Grande on Sepember 1st. They are figuring whether they will name the new re freshment parlor "The Oasis" or "Dew-Drop-Inn." Last December Jaeobson Bros., re fugees from Colonia Diaz, Chihuahua, Mexico, driven from that country by the revolution, settled on land six nv'les e-jst if Arizcla sliding. Six months have hardly passed yet these boys have demonstrated what can be done by pluck, perserverance and the "know how." They took up two sec tions of land outside of the Casa Grande Water Users' project, have only spent $H300 in drilling a well and installing a pump, and early this week they were irrigating with a 500 gallon per minute stream of the fin est water in the world. In calculat ing their cost it has been proven that they can irrigate one-half an acre per hour at a cost of 9yz cents, covering 360 acres every 30 days. The boys have surely demonstrated that the Casa Grande valley is the home seekers' paradise and the settler can make good by a small expenditure and a determination to succeed. Contractors from Phoenix, Tucson and Florence, and the local builders, have their bids in for the construc tion of the new $25,000 school house. Excavating for the foundation is now going on and Contractor Houck is rushing the wrk. ; As an illustration of what can be done in the Casa Grande valley when water is applied to the soil the farm of Mrs. Kratzka, the wife of Casa Grande's iopular baker and restaur ant owner, is a model demonstration plot, and attracts the attention of all visitors to this progressive section of the great and glorious west south land. Afer taking one slant at this farm the prospective land buyer is convinced of the richness of the soil and the "show-me" man from Mis souri has been shown. Casa Grande leads all other cities in Arizona in one respect and that is in the movies. The pictures change at the Alrdome every night. The settlers are anxiously awaiting the publishing of the proposition to be made, or that has been made, by WATCH THE OVERLAND PASS WATCH THE OVERLAND PASS fllQ TKe World -Famous Automobile with Full Equipment Shops In Phoenix. It is stated that the proposition will soon be submit ted to the people and it is the wsh of those back of the project that all the settlers in the valley should un derstand every detail of their irriga tion plan.
