Wither has a few years absence lessened their rein t ions with the social life here, many having' retained their membership in the local clubs in which they once took an active part. Mrs. John T. Dennis who organiz ed the Harmony Club in l'hoenix fif teen years ago and served as its president for six year-;, is now a re sident of Ocean Park. Although she belongs to several of the most exclu sive clubs there she takes especial pride in her association with the Har mony Club and the fact that she is an honorary president for life of that) organization. The advancement and j progress of the club has not passed j unnoticed by Mrs. Dennis wh wrote the by laws and constitution for the! groii'i of women, fourteen in all. who ! banded together with the prime object of carrying on philanthropic work and enjoying an occasional afternoon of good music. Seven years ago the club was federated with a member ship of forty that has since rapidly increased. Civic and current events will be studied this winter and plans lor a club house are under way. "I hope to he able to go to Phoenix and celebrate when the new club house is opeired." said Mrs. Dennis. "I am very proud of being an honorary president and charter member and delighted that the club has decided on a course of serious study. I have aiwavs been in favor of departmen tal work for it is really a necessity today to keep up with the times, at home and abroad." Mrs. Dennis is an excellent parlia mentarian and has been greatly mis-si-il by the Phoenix clubs. Many of the committee appointments she made in the Harmony club have remained unchanged, the different officers of the club appreciating the rare judg ment and tact she displayed in her selections. BROWNE 0 From the coast comes the following word printed in "screaming headlines in a Dos Angeles paper: "The Tango Rag" has claimed its first victim. Mrs. Raymond Terry, a society wo man, is today suffering from a frac tured hip. caused by a fall while "Tangoing" at the Hotel Virginia, Dong lieach. According to the doctors at the Dong P.eaeh sanitarium where Mrs. Terry is being treated, it will be more than a month before she will be able to dance again. With a party of friends whom she was visiting in Dong Baech, Mrs. Terry went to the "rag" party at the Virginia. The merry dance was at its height. The "Bunny Hug." the "Boston Hon." tiie "(Jaby Glide" were all there. In fact nearly a hundred couples were "ragging." Mrs. Terry was doing the "Tango" and very beautifully, according to spectators. Suddenly a couple doing the "dip" ragged past and tripped Mrs. Terry. She fell heavily, frac turing a hip and sustaining minor in juries. JMie was carried, screaming from the hotel and rushed immediatt ly t the Dong Beach sanitarium. Members of the smart set, theater goers and the automobile contingent will be interested to leain that George Webo has returned to the stage. He will make his reappearance in Seattle the latter part of the month as lead ing man with the Kussell-Drew Stock Company. Mr. Webb has visited here frequently, his most recent trip to Arizona being a year ago when he m 'tored from New Vol k to Cali f'Unia where he had fallen heir to considerable property. They passed August in Oregon where they have real estate interests. o DIED ON THE WAY A certain Kaffir, having been down to the coast for the first time in his life, returned to his home with won derful tales about the sea. He ex plained to his tribe that the waters of the pea were alive they moved jumped splashed. "I have brought some back in a bottle to show you," he said. A whole crowd of Kaffirs congre gated to see this wonder. However, when the water was poured into a bowl the traveler was distressed to find :t did not move at all. Sister :Kllis made some very pleasing remarks and en couraged the officers in tbeir work. She also reported having called on a visiting sick lister. The M. K.
