Smith & Dewey, Proprietors NATATORIUM FOR PHOENIX Skating Rink to Be Im proved So That Floor Can Be Removed in Summer Where Plunge Pools Will Be Located Announcement was made last night of a big Improvement in the city of Phoenix that will be hailed with de light by the people of Phoenix, and very particularly by the younger men. Phoenix is to have what has long been wanted, a big, clean modern natato rium. E. G. Eastman, who owns the. big skating rink at the corner of First and Polk Streets, has now completed all plans and has let the contracts to the various artisans for the contsurc tion of this natatorium, which will be gin about the first of the month or im mediately upon the close of the Brown Curry meetings which are now being held In the skating rink. Mr. Eastman has arranged to use this big piece- of property for a double purpose nata torium Jn the summer time and a skat ing rink in the winter time. The big floor will be removed In sec tions and stored away ready to be re placed for skating in the fall. The en tire building will be used for the nata torium, a natatorium that is to be 62 feet by 140 feet. The pool will be built of concrete and will be from 18 inches to nine feet in depth. A large sum of money is tobe spent to make this place a thoroughly sanitary one, one with every possible comfort. There will be a steady flow of water so that it will be fresh all the time. The big tank will be drained and washed daily. The plans call for 250 dressing rooms. Eastman has placed an order for 1000 bathing costumes which will Insure plenty of dry and clean suits at all times. He has also placed an order for 2500 special bath towels. An orchestra balcony has been planned for there will be music every night. The natatorium will be open from eight in the morning until eleven at night. Mr. Eastman announces that it will be his strict endeavor to give the people of Phoenix not only a thor oughly sanitary place, but one that will be conducted with thorough order at all times, and no sick people will be allowed. Plunges, spring boards and various athletic apparatus will be In stalled. An expert swimming Instruc tor will be engaged to teach swimming, gratis. Another thing that will be of Interest Is the fact that there will be a separate pool partitioned from the main one where only women will be allowed. There are promised many exhibitions and feature attractions during the summer, and the big Eastman nata torium doubtless will prove to be one of the several new factors tending to keep more people in Phoenix during the summer .season. Mr. Eastman Intends to have the na tatorium so built so as next fall the rol ler skating floor will be replaced. This he has arranged to do on the first day of November, so as to be in good run ning order before Fair week. He has already placed an order for an addi tional six hundred pairs of skates with the Richardson Skate Company of Chicago. These skates will all have fibre roller which are considered es pecially fine. ( 8- a3 Wfc 0V iptiei stock co FEDERAL COURT TERM IS ENDED One of Longest Terms is Over Judge Sawtelle to Remain in Chambers Un til April G, When April Term Opens Flynn has left the criminal record about clean. The couit attaches will by no means drop their activity of the past few weeks. Although the next term will not comprehend such a mass of cases as the last one, there still re mains much to be done in preparation. WOMEN AND BANKS One of the longest federal court terms on record ended yesterday when Judge Sawtelle adjourned Un united States district court's October sitting shortly after three o'clock. It has been an interesting term. Many criminal and civil eases have been disposed of. The length of the docket will probably never again be equalled in the Arizona district cgurt, for this one was the last term un der the new provision of the federal law cutting the state into four divi sions. The next regular term opens on April 6, and will be entitled the April or spring term of the court. From this date until April 0, nothing will be considered outside of cham bers. Few cases remain uncompleted, or untouched. The dismissal of some admittedly weak indictments by United States Attorney Thomas A. "You've heard a lot of stories about the fool mistakes women make when they come to a bank," said a Well-known paying teller, "and some of them are true. "I've seen 'em all the woman who gets mad when we call her attention to an overdraft, and then wants to write a check to make it up; the woman whose indorsements are weird all of them. "But the worst came a few weeks ago. She shoved a check through the window without looking ot me. I said: "Madam, you will have to get someone to introduce you before I can cash this check for you.' " 'Sir,' she answered haughtily, 'I am here on business, and not mak ing a social call. I do not care to know yoi',' " .Bankers' Journal. Brown I'm going to buy a revolver and kill myself.
