' ; V.-: 550 Phone 660; FIRE DESTROYS LIEHEIICE Home of Supervisor Frank Luke Quickly Reduced to Ashes While Immense Crowd is Held Back by Awful Heat None Hurt Fii-e, which fairly rushed from some unknown point in the back, quickly destroyed the fine big home of Super visor Frank Luke on East Washington and Fifteenth streets about N eleven o'clock last night. ; From the time the blaze was first noticed until it had enveloped and de stroyed the dwelling was so short a time, that even the automobile bleach ers, which are so quickly crowded at a Phoenix fire, hadn't time to form along the side streets before the blaze began to die out. The house, which was one of the largest frame buildings in -the city was like so much tinder. The fire was burning every part, at once, almost before It had broken through the roof. A daughter of Mr. and Mrs. .Luke was sleeping in one of the rooms when the fire broke out, and she had barely time to reach the street before the roof fell. No furniture was saved, nor any part of the house. Had the fire depart ment been equipped with flying ma chines, it could not have stayed the blaze. The alarm was turned In by phone, after some little delay, and the fire fighters were prompt enough to prevent the spread of the flames. Phoenix has seldom had such a quick hot' fire. Passersby on the side' street. two . hundred feet from the building were compelled to llee, for the heat was so inten.se it- shriveled and scorched even at that distance. It is not known how much insurance was carried, although it is presumed the house and furniture were pretty well covered. , o OLD OFFENDERS IN AGAIN PETIT LARCENY CHARGE William Gibson, one of the Phoe nix hold up men of eighteen months ago, and Jack Wilson, a jail bird from Cochise county, pleaded guilty to the theft of Frank H. Parker's double harness in Justice Johnstone's court yesterday. They could scarcely have done otherwise, as Officers Morrell and Wilkinson practically caught them with the goods. Parker, missing a valuable double harness from his ranch, found where it had been dragged across a soft field, and proved to Jim Murphy that it had been stolen and carried away in a buggy.. ; . . Then the officers began to watch the stables. Yesterday afternoon Morrell and Wilkinson were apprised of the fact two men men had tried to sell such and such an outfit to Jack Evans at his stable on South Third Btreet.. They waited for the men to come back and drew as prizes the persons of Gibson and Wilson. o SOCIALISTS IN SAFFORO FAIL TO NOMINATE MEN . Safford socialists failed to get on the county ticket. After a rally, the like of which has seldom been seen even in that smiling Graham county, the socialists, full of fried chieken. mashed potatoes, lemonade, iced tea and other -'vittles" that go with pic nics, neglected to get out the proper papers. All nominees except J. O. Thorpe for justice of the peace, R. Camp bell for recorder. Hyrum Bingham for constable, and Herman Langham for committeeman, were turned down because the applications were not made out properly. The republicans did not petition ior superior judge, state senator or representatives or sheriff. COLORED MOTION PICTURES There are colored motion pictures that are made so by hand, each little picture being painted separately. In making pictures "in natural colors" the film is the same as that of the ordln ary motion picture. But in making it the speed is twice as fast, thirty-two pictures to the second. "Colored" pic tures are photographed through mats or screens of colored- glass. Two pri mary colors are used, red and green. with a sympathetic touch of blue. When the machine that makes the photograph is started, a device causes the red screen to pass before the lens as the first photograph is taken, and the green screen, passes the same way as the. following picture is made. They continue to do so alternately as the film continues to be .exposed. The negative is developed and a positive printed, and - when-, run through the projecting machine the color screens are used in the same way as when the negative was made, red and green pic tures being flashed on the screen alter nately. Those colors that are In sym pathy with the red are brought out, and those that are in sympathy with the green are shown in the same -way, and through the persistence of vision we tio not notice the changes. Instead, they blend harmoniously to our de light. Charles M. Seay, in The Amer lean Boy. 0 CARD OF THANKS We desire to extend our sincere thanks to our friends and neighbors, the Redmen.
