For the lasl four days flood waters from the Verde have been piling down the river to such an extent that all lands can get all the water needed, while several hundreds of ace feet havej leen going over the wasteway at the tiranite Reef dam and thence on to the sea. In seven days the net gain in the reservoir totals over 23,000 feet, to be i xac t 23.S62 acre feet, including the pain of yesterday of 4393. This is enough to supply water to 23,862 acres for halt a year. The present height of the reservoir is gveater than at any time this year since the July 2j. In other words the entire amount of the water used from the leservoir since that date has been recovered by reason of the storage of the rainfall on the watershed duving the past two weeks. o WHAT WILU WOOL CLIP BE? The department of agriculture is anxious to find out all it can about the wool crop of Arizona this year, and has in consequence called upon the board i trade for assistance sending at the same time a series of questions the tsamc as those sent out to every listed vo"l grower in the state, asking for particular data. H. Thorne, re porter of the supreme court, who has just returned from a month's stay in San Francisco. "Only one nation has withdrawn its exhibit on account of the Euro pean war, and practically all the South American countries have dou bled their appropriations," said Mr. Thorne yesterday. "Germany had never officially decided to participate, and practically every other nation is going right ahead with its exhibit. "San P.-ancisco Day has been full of shipping held up by the war, but most of the boats are going out now, as the Pacific is considered to be practically safe. Just before Japan declared war on Germany, a Japanese cruiser put into the harbor, and was loaded with coal and provisions enough to last for a long voyage. A special train will be run over the Burlington road from Chicago, arriving in time for the opening of the session September S. Owing to the primary election in this state, the Arizona delegation, consist ing of Tax Commissioners C. M. Zan der and Charles R. Howe and Prof. H. A. E. Chandler of the state university will not leave until the evening of Sep tember 8 arriving in time for the later sessions of the conference. The program this year contains a number of important matters among which are the taxation of Express com panies; a discussion of the matter of license fees on foreign corporations; and suggestions for uniformity among the states in the taxation of securities and moveable tangible property. Three notable sessions will be held on subjects which are occupying public at tention at the present time. One of these will be devoted to the discus sion of the federal income tax. This will be an important occasion not only on account of the subject-matter but because of the personnel of the partici pants. These will include Congressman Hull, the author of the law; Deputy Commissioner of Internal Revenue Luther F. Speer; Mr. Frank Trumbull, chairman of the board of directors of the C. & O. Ry., who has devoted a large amount of thought to the matter from the standpoint of the railways and A. C. Rearick, Esq., of New York City, who acted as chairman of a sub-com mittee of the conference of railroad ounsel throughout their consideration of the law. Professor E. R. A. Selig man of Columbia University, the lead ing authority on the subject, as well is many ether students and profes sional iren especially interested will be present and participate in the discus sion. Professor Clark of the Uni versity of Manitoba, F. J. Dixon of Winnipeg, F. C. Wade, K. C. of Van couver and G. J. Knapp of Colorado Springs will participate ampng others in this discussion. Arizona will be represented at this session by Chairman C. M. Zander of the Arizona state tax commission who will read a paper on the subject, "Tax ation of Metalliferous Mines." Professor E. R. A. Seligman of Co lumbia University is president of the association and T. S. Adams, tax com missioner of Wisconsin is secretary. The ob ject of the mobilization of Turkish troops was described in a statement today by the; Turkish ambassador, Rustem Bey. 'Turkish mobilization, which start ed about a month ago, not quite re cently, as yesterday's telegrams make one think, has brought to arms not 200,000 men, as mentioned in the same dispatches, but probably over 00,000," stated the ambassador. "This operation is not meant to allow Turkey to attack Greece, her differences with Greece being the smallest of her concerns today.
