Fulfilling an old vow of friendship made many years apo, "Princess" Wenona, a Sioux squaw who is exhibiting her wonderful rifle marksman ship on the Zone at the Panama exposition, has adopted the child of Mrs, Lillian Clayton. Mrs. Clayton had known the squaw as a girl. Sick, with out money and discouraged, she recently went to the exposition to find work. There she met the squaw, who proved her willingness to help the friend of many years ago by taking the child to raise while the mother went tothe hospital. . . Wilder, of Savannah, Ga., one of the best known criminolo gists in the south, makes an earnest appeal for commutation to life im prisonment for Leo Frank, the At lanta pencil factory superintendent under sentence of death for the mur der of Mary Phapan, whose case, after having gone through every court in the land, is soon to be pre sented to. the prison commission of Georgia. The night rfhift hand ling the milk went on duty Saturday evening and will continue its work through the entire summer. The ad dition, means that the four big milk trucks and a number of wagons, haul ing from the Mesa, Chandler and Gil bert country will be on the road al most constantly, making two rounds trips each day. JUNIOR RECEPTION The junior reception of Saturday evening made a great start for com mencement week at the Tempe high. Forty or more members of the senior and junior classes and the faculty, en joyed one of the best banquets of the year, and incidentally there were some very entertaining toasts. The variety of entertainment provided through the evening for the guests, made the oc casion in its entirety a highly enjoyable one. EARLY TO RISE The excitement of the biest vheat crop he- had ever grown led a farmer near Winfield, Kas., to rouse hin men at 3 o'clock in the morninsr on the first day of the harvest. One Ozark "hill billy." who had sought work in the western wheat fields, tumbled out of bed at the farmer's call and was eagerly eating breakfast when his fellow-workmen appeared. The young folk of the high school and the eighth trade of the grammar schools ar? looking forward to the commence ment exercises in both the high school and the eighth grade. SCARE CROW TO BE REPEATED "The Scarecrow." the senior class play given last week, is to be re peated some time this week, probably Saturday night. The play has been rearranged so that those who wit nessed the first performance will see something entirely different.
