The Lincoln highway, which In Maryland and Pennsylvaniaabsorbs an untold wealt hot freight traffic, could not be kept in the perfect condition bo essential to economical haulage with out the use of motorized road appara tus. - i It is peculiarly significant that ; Pierce-Arrow trucks were the ones chosen for this type of work, and dur ing the last two years they have clear ly demonstrated their superiority in thetask of road maintenance and road, building. Since 1918 the Barrett com pany, orrrating a fleet of 3." I'ierce Arrow trucks, has been caring for a large section of the Pennsylvania, sec tion of the Lincoln highway. These trucks also have been used in the maintenance of the William Penn ' highway and on state roads in many of the eastern states. The trucks, used mainly in treating : roud surfaces, are equipped with tank bodies. They operate economically in a radius of 40 miles from the source of supply. "Without motor truck distribution, this kind of work would be out of the question because of expense." said the local Pierce-Arrow dealer. "The radius of horse-drawn distributors is small and the loads they can draw arc light. "It is the motor truck that will de mand the best roads and it is the mo tor truck that is making it possible to construct and maintai nthosc roads.'' MENDING BROKEN JACKET Repair of a badly broken water jack et may be accomplished if the operator knows just how to go about the job. Take for instance, a case where the corner of the Jacket has been frac tured. The broken pieces of the cast ing ate put together in a skeleton framework, made to hold them in posi tion. The entire jacket is then tilled with a saturated solution of salammon lao. The seepage is permitted to oxi dize, and after the cracks have closed up and the leakage has ceased, the solution is entirely drained out and the job is allowed to mand until it is thor oughly dry. After that the expansion and contraction of the jacket do not effect the repair. TRUCK MADS FINE RECORD A la, lew riling a 'or tun ti n -on.
