The hills in which with solitude I passed My peaceful days, my happy days, my best. I shall return unto my rugged grand Old cliffs and caverns, gushing brooks and tarns. Where few are met, but they with out-stretched hand Give, live and epin their wild rough yarns. When camped upon the e'er receding plains, I oftimes lie upon my couch and dream About the lonely hills where I would fain Rest all my days besides some friendly stream; And then in memory I wend my way Along the rocky climb of driver trails, And standing on the highest peak survey The silver rivers winding 'round the dales. I see the pack -man driving home his mules. And see the stealthy hunter after deer; 1 see the angler lurking by the pools, And sec the cow-man rounding up his steers; I visage e'er minutely in my dreams Rach 6ilken pine bough rustling in the breeze; The glistening, sparkling, foaming of the stream; The checkered shadows of the giant trees. I dream about the meadows circled 'round I'.y tall and sentry pine trees, watching o'er To guard their friends, the deer, from hunter hound, Or she-wolf prowling from her whelps and lair; And then I lay me on the lush, soft green. And of a crystal spring drink long and deep. And little think I that 'tis but a dream That vanishes away when breaks my sleep. oh dreams, oh dreams of mountains vast and far, The one consolcnee of a soldier's life, bet not my days my dreams of mountains mar: Hut let me dwell upon the distant heights Liet me. dream of my mountains vast. Initial steps toward bringing about a reduc tion ot prices and stabilization of the basic commodities were taken today at a conference of representatives of the steel industry, with the department of commerce's trecently organized indus trial board. The steel men, headed by E. H. Gary, chairman of the American Iron and Steel institute, met with the board and later held a separate con ference. Another meeting with the board will be held tomorrow. The at titude of the steel manufacturers to ward the board's proposals was not announced. The board, however, in a statement issued after the joint con ference said that "while an actual de cision on a lowered scale of prices "had not been reached." satisfactory progress had been made." Chairman Peek of the board was quoted as saying the steel men had shown an entire willingness to "co-operate in making effective any program that will hasten the return to normal conditions." It was generally understood that the factor of labor costs entered largely into the discussion by the manufactur ers of the board's proposals for stabil ization of the industry and possible reduction in prices.
