First Arizona Caucus Called
to Be Held at Tucson July

reived from Captain Gerald Jones, vice
commander of the Tucson Post of the

to all veterans of the great war:

A caucus o the veterans of the great
"war, residing in Arizona will he held at
Tucson on lfiday and Saturday. July
1 1 and 12, 1919. for the purpose of form
ing the state organization of the Amer
ican legion. It is earnestly desired
that all veterans of the great war who j
can possibly arrange to do so, attend
the caucus.
All persons will be elisible to attend
and participate in this caucus who were
in the military and naval services of
the United States during the period be
tween April 7, 1917 and November 11,
1919, both dates inclusive, and all per
sons who served in the military or
naval services of any of the govern
ments associated with the United
States during the world war providing
they were citizens of the United States
fit the time of their enlistments and
'who are again citizens at the time of
their application, except those persons
separated from the service under terms,
amounting to dishonorable discharges.
and except all persons who refused to
perform their military duties on the
grounds of conscientious objectors.

eligible may be admitted to member
ship on the same basis, as residents of
this state. It is desired that all such
service men attend and assist in the
formation of this state organization.
Vote by Counties
Kvery person eligible as above stated
shall have the courtesy of the floor of
the caucus.hut voting will be by coun
ties and proportional to the number of
men furnished by the respective coun
ties under the draft laws.
The American Legion is a national
nssociation of veterans of the great war,
formed at a caucus held at St. Louis on
May 9 and 10, 1919, in conjunction with
a caucus held at Parifi France, of the
men then overseas. The purpose and
ideal are. such that conform to the
ideals and the principles of every man
that has served his country. The neces
sity of this organization is too apparent
for discussion, and the necessity of a
speedy and proper formation of the
state organization under the national
association is urgent-

venient to most men. Tucson is out
doing Itself in preparing for this gath
ering, and a royal welcome will be ex
tended to those attending. Let every

as being the great monument to the
memory of his service, and attend the
caucus. Remember its importance. It
is the formation of the state organiza
tion that will have more members and
