PHOENIX FINE FIELD FOR
WHOLESALE TRADE
Decided improvement has been noted in conditions at
various mining camps of the state during the past few
weeks according to William P. Voita, secretary of the
jTribolet Packing company. Especially is this improve-
ment noticeable at Ray and Superior, he says.
lhe Tribolet Packing company, one ,of the largest
wholesale meat firms in Arizona, is largely dependent
upon the mining centers of the state for the bulk of its
trade and, in consequence, the improving conditions are
especially gratifying to them.
Conditions locally are good for this season of the
year, Mr. Voita states, but there has been a decreasing
tendency during the past few days. This is only to bo
expected, he says, and has little or no effect upon the
market, inasmuch as ample provision has been made to
meet this condition.
Prices remain fairly firm although there is a slight
downward tendency. This is occasioned, it is stated, by
a slight over-supply rather than a noticeable decrease in
wholesale prices of beef and hogs.
Wholesale dealing is exceptionally light at this time.
Few cattle are being shipped for marketing purpose, the
bier movement not being scheduled until late m the falL

Couple of naturalists claim to have
discovered a flock of talking monkeys
about 5,000 miles east of Congress.
Don't say whether the1 ex-crown prince
acted as interpreter or not. Monks
were found playinb coanut golf, and
question is, did they cuss in monk
mumble or straight golf English? First
thing the monks chirped was, "did the
landlords raise our relatives' rent in
the zoos and circuses?" lady monks
wanted to know what the latest fash
ions were- And when told, said the
styles were making monkeys out of our
women. When they heard that the na
tion would only be drinking far-away
beer after July 1, they took to the tall
palms to shake a cocoanut highball.

the stock exchange today reflected in
a more pronounced manner the extra
ordinary changes which, have come over
the speculative situation with the ap
proaching ratification of the peace
treaty. This was manifested not so
much by the market's frequent periods
of extreme listlessness and narrowness,
as by the perfunctory character of the
trading. The turnover was the smallest
of any full session in many weeks; the
familiar million share 'mark was not
reached- The sales amounted 935,000
shares.
In the money market, wnicn was tne
governing item, there were no outstand-it,o-
fagtnrvq tn emoted values. Call
money opened at 7 to 7 per cent, rose
to 15 per cent m tne nnai nour, auu
closed at 8 per- cent.

one to almost five points on reports of
copper sales at 18c. -
Motors, oils, tobaccos, leathers and
several of the food issues recorded gains

flurry occurred, some popular stocks,
especially shippings, proved superior to
this condition and served to sustain the
general list when money rates relaxed.
Investment rails displayed little of
yesterday's resilient tone, the few note
worthy gains being limited to minor or
secondary issues. Paper, chemical and
affiliated issues were mainly higher,
the market showing an irregular mix
ture of losses and gains at the end. The
bond market followed the uncertain
course of stocks trading in that de
partment also dwindling perceptibly.
Total sales, par value, aggregated J7,
225,000. Old United States bonds were un
changed on call. '
