With the go ing out of intoxicating liquor the country is also likely to go on tne "tipless" basis, according to A. C. Stephens, president of the Ohio Hotel association, who is in Chicago arrang ing for the convention of his associa tion to be held in connection with the Hotel Show here during the week of August fourth. "I think the day of tips is over,' said Mr. Stephens. "With the Euro pean source of supply practically cut off, it is hard to get waiters. So the hotels have been more and more care fully considering mechanical devices to take the place of servants . I predict that more of them will do so. The cafeteria, as you! know, is a strictly tipless institution. Even in dining rooms where there is service, the movement toward doing: a way with waiters is making rapid j strides. There are all sort of me-j chanical devises for this purpose. A) mechanical system for checking hatsj and wraps has already been devised I and, I am sure, will soon come into ; general use. 1 "With the going out of liquor and the curtailing of tips in consequence of this, waiters will be asking a wage scale two or three times as great as' the present one, and the hotel men simply can't afford to pay it." WHY GO FURTHER? A visitor who was stopping at a hotel was much disturbed by the snoring of one of his friends sleeping in an ad joining room. Suddenly the snore ceased and the deathlike stillness op pressed the listener. The friend said, "I was sleeping with my mouth open and I think 1 have swallowed a mouse." The hotel doctor was sent for who adopted the novel expedient of calling in the services of the hotel cat, and placed a piece of toasted cheese some little distance from the invalid's mouth, the theory being that the mouse, smelling the cheese, would come out to eat it and would thereupon fall, a prey to the cat. While the remedy 1 was working the doctor went down- j stairs to have a drink. The patient's 4 mind being relieved, he fell asleep and j resumed nis snoring, wnen the doc- j tor returned he missed the cat. GOODWIN & CO. SAGETEA BEAUTIF1EE 10 BMEIS HAIR Don't Stay Gray!
