For the purpose of discussing a num
ber of matters in relation to the com
ing cotton crop, the cotton growers of
the Cartwright district will meet to
night at the Cartwright school.
The meeting will be held under the
auspices of thai Arizona American
Egyptian Cotton Growers' association,
the southwestern branch of the Amer
ican Cotton association, and is one of
a series of meetings being held all over
this section in order to allow every
cotton grower the opportunity to hear
this year's cotton business discussed
by experts.
H. C. Heard, county agricuutural
agent, will discuss cotton culture and
irrigation methods, and Charles M.
Morgan, representing the association,
will talk on co-operative marketing,
telling the growers what is being done
by the association all over this state
and the entire South to secure the best
possible prices for cotton.
A well-attended and highly interest
ing meeting of the same type was held
Wednesday night at Giendale, where
D. C. George, plant pathologist for the
state horticultural board, spoke on cot
ton diseases, and Mr. Morgan spoke on
co-operative marketing.
The service of the association this
year is being greatly enlarged and ex
panded. New features will include
grading and classing by a licensed
grader, the service being free to mem
bers; sales for individuals and groups
in pools, and other features yet to be
announced. The information bureau
has been greatly eniargea in scope ana
prepared for even better service than
last year.

HOME FROM COAST
ID BUTE DISPUTE
David F. Johnson, member of the !
corporation commission, returned yes
terday from Los Angeles, where he sat
in a hearing of the United Eastern
and Tom Reed mining companies and
the Desert Power and Water company
of Kingman, the controversy growing
out of an order issued by the corpora
tion commission in reference to rates.
The mining company failed to re
member that the order issued by the
commission was retroactive, but Mr.
Johnson stated that the members of
the commission had clear remembrance
that the raise of rates was effective
from the date of the hearing, and by
stipulation the matter was concluded.
Owing to the high price of oil. it is
understood that another advance in
rates will shortly be applied for by the
water and power company.
After the conclusion of the hearing
Mr. Johnson went to Pasadena, where
he attended two sessions of the Na
tional Electric Light association, which
held a convention in that city.

ready chosen and financial plans
practically completed, the next few
months will see the actual construc
tion of the new $200,000 hotel by the
organization composed of some of the
city's leading business men. The di
rectors of the organization are George
A. Johnson, J. T. Lesueur, C. F. Brack
ets, AV. M. Beach and O. S. Stapley.
They have engaged Messrs. Hogan and
O'Neill to supervise the construction
and erection of the building. Plans
have already been completed. A lim
ited number of shares in the enterprise
will be offered for sale to interested
citizens. The first $25,000 of the
building fund has already been sub
scribed. State Farm Bureau Meeting
C. S. Brown, president of the state
farm bureau, who has just returned
from the National Farm Bureau Fed
eration which convened in Chicago,
where 28 states affiliated, with ap
proximately one million members, is
calling a meeting to be held tonight
at the cit yhall for the purpose of or
ganizing this community center into a
farm bureau. The object of this or
ganization is to better marketing con
ditions, to create legislative influence.

New Home for Mesa Commercial Club
Plans for building . a permanent
home for the Mesa Commercial club
are under way. The club is making

been shunted about from one locatic
to another, until the management
have, decided it is high time to get a
permanent location where a tired
business man may find an hour of rest
and a meeting place with his business

Dr. Pearce Passes Through
Dr. J. S. Pearce of Portales. N. M
.spent yesterday in Tempe visiting with
Dr. Patterson and family. Dr. Pearce
and Dr. Patterson were old friends
having practiced together in New Mex
ico. Dr. Pearce is making the trip
from his home to Yellowstone park in
his car.
Leaves for Coast
G. H. Bransford left last night for
Mercede, Cal., where he will join his
wife, who underwent an operation there
last week. A late report from there
stated that she was doing nicely.
Move to Texas
Mr. and Mrs. Gable left Tempe
Thursday evening for Fort Worth, Tex.,
where Mr. Gable has a position with the
government. Mr. Gable has been em
ployed in the entomological station
here for several years.
Rule for Parking Cars
The traffic officer Is now asking that
all cars on Mill be parked on either
side of the paving until the paving
is completed, at which time the per
manent rules will be made. The part
of the street which is paved is so nar-
now that it makes traffic in safety
very difficult if parking is allowed ti
be done on the paving.
City Elections
Monday. May 24, is city election, at
which time the five councilmen will be
elected. On June 21 another election
will be held for the purpose of voting
bonds to the amount of $4S,000 for
street improvements.

Everybody is requested to be present
at the operetta ' Almond Eyes," to be
given by the students of the local high
school in the Tabernacle hall on Sat
urday, May 22. The price of admission

being rehearsed daily under the able
supervision of Miss Mary Carroll, a
member of the school faculty.

Hugh Gardner of the Gardner and
Harmer Drug compa.ny, will leave
shortly for Rochester, Minn., where he
will be operated upon by the Mayo
brothers, the celebrated physicians for
sinus trouble. Mr. Gardner expects to
be gone about a month.
