"State Good Koads Day." by the Merchant and Manufacturers' association, it was announced yester day by County Chairman J. C. Dobbins of the Arizona Good Roads association. Five organizations will work thru jay In competition for a loving cup to ie given the organization getting the Tsrgest percentage of names based on ;he vote for mayor cast in the four oM wards of the city. These wards are the Adams hotel ward, the chamber of commerce ward, -the court house ward nd the city hSH ward. The Rotary " ': t-b will have charge in the Adams Jofel ward, the Kiwanis club In thi rnamber of commerce ward, the Auto motive Dealers' association iji the aurt house ward and the realty board, in the city hall ward. "State Good Roads Day" falls on the longest day in the year. This Is considered good luck by Mr. Dobbins. "It will be the longest day of sunshine ! '1 the historv of Arizona" Yin rjiiM ' We will get ample signatures here' and elsewhere In the state to place the measure before the people for ; vote next fall. It will go through and in time we will have a state highway commission to do big things lor the state. Hence the longest day of sun shine will be long remembered." . .o METHODSTS n AGAIPJ DEFEAT EM5TIIS The leading Central Christian church baseball teaoi suffered its second de feat of the league schedule at the hands of the South Methodist squad at Eastlake park yesterday afternoon by a score of 8 to 7. The South Method ists re the only players who have de feated the leaders. Roth teams played fast, snappy hall, a. large crowd being in attendance. The Christian team got away to a good start with four runs in the first inning and increased its lead to six with a couple more in the fourth. The Methodists went scoreless in the first four frame .vnd then broke into the run column with a vengeance, put ting six men across the rubber before the side wa.i retired They went into the lead with another run in the sixth and the Christians . knotted the score at seven all in their h2lf. The Method ists scored the winning run in the seventh.
