Various meetings were held by each to devise a plan for tho better handling of the traffic and to reduce tho danger of ac cident to persons and damage to prop erty in consequence of Uie-apidly in creasing number of motor cars and the disregard of the traffic ordinance. The ordinance itself was believed by both to be a model traffic law. but with the present means of enforcement it is almost valueless. After each body had discussed the subject there was a joint meeting of committees from the chamber of commerce and the Auto Dealers' association, when it was de cided to present a resolution to the committee recommending the creation of a traffic department and offering suggestions for certain changes in the regulations. . Tho members of the committee rep resenting the chamber were J. M. Ait hen ajid John D. Leper. Those on be half of the association, Cal Messner and George H. Reuben. At the meet ing of the city commission yesterday morning the following resolution agreed to was offered : Offer Resolution To the Honorable Mayor and City Commission of the City of Phoenix. Gentlemen: The undersigned com mittees selected by the chamber of commerce and the Automobile Dealers' association to consider traffic condi tions and the enforcement thereof in this city, and being charged with the duty of submitting to your honorable body our recommendations, having given the subject full consideration in our respective associations, and real izing that not only the growth of the city, but -the inoreapo In traffic prob lem require that the enforcement of the traffic regulations should be en trusted to a. department charged with the proper and reasonable enforcement MELON HAULING Highway Trailer thereof exclusively, yet, under the general supervision of the police de partment of the city, do hereby make the following recommendations which we suggest should be established by proper ordinance or resolution, namely: First That a traffic department consisting of a superintendent of traf fic and sufficient men and equipment to enforce the traffic regulations in telligently and properly be created and organized. Second That a strict enforcement of the traffic ordinances and the pun ishment of all violations thereof be in sisted upon, to the end that all viola tors be impressed with the necessity of due observance of such regulations. Third That all parking stalls be eliminated and prohibited on tho fol lowing named blocks, to-wit: First street, betffeen Washington and Adams. First avenue, between Washington and Monroe, and that no parking should bo allowed in parking stalls, where parking stalls are allowed, in excess of two hours. Fourth That tho number of "for hire" cars which shall be allowed to stand on Central avenue, between Jef ferson and Adams streets, and on Washington street, between First street and First avenue, be reduced and lim ited to two on each block, and that such limitations shall go into effect as soon as practicable.
