WOMEN'S EXCHANGE WOMEN'S EXCHANGE 115 N. Second Ave. Phone 3893 NEW YORK, Aug. 12 Prices of stocks advanced again today. Apart from an interval of, heaviness at the start, and some yielding at the closo, when traders took profits, the trend was upward. Prominence given de velopments In the Ruso-Polish situa tion produced early selling which car ried down the list one to three points. Pressure soon ceased and the market gradually crept upward on diminished dealings. By the early afternoon all losses had been recovered and many stocks ruled one to two points above yes terday's close. The advance was ac complished in face of a steady fall in sterling which dropped five cents, aft er opening a cent higher. Failure to cause liquidation during the early pressure i'nduced shorts to cover later, and their buying was primarily re sponsible for the subsequent strength. Low priced oils, sugars, motors, rub bers, shippings, tobacco, steels, inter national nickel. United States alcohol and American Woolen were carried up smartly. Railroads did not respond as well as the industrials when the general buy ing commenced. Total sales approxi mated 450,000 shares. The money market gave early in dications of easing, the call rate fall- ng to-six per cent before mid-day aft er renewals naa neen esiaousneu ai seven per cent. Stringent conditions contmued to prevail as to time money virtually no funds being loaned despite bids of9 to 9 per cent. Bonds were irregular, foreign is sues were also mixed ana jioerty bonds continued to move uncertainly. Old U. S. bonds were unchanged on call. Total sales (par value) $9,225,000. CHICAGO, Aug. 12 General belief that export business on a large scale was being done under cover had a bull ¬ ish effect today on the wheat market. Openl"ng prices, which ranged from on to two cents higher, with December $2.40 to $2.40' and March $2.43, were followed by a slight reaction, and then by a decided fresh advance. Scantiness of receipts helped to strengthen the corn market. On the other hand, rains in the West acted as a check on buying. After opening off to up, including September, at $1.48 to $1.49 and December $1.24Tk to $1.25, the market scored a mate rial upturn. Oats were firmer fn sympathy with corn, starting hiQMc to V2 lower, but soon climbing above yesterday's finish. Weakness of hog values put a drag on provisions. Buyers were scarce. METALS NEW YORK.
