Another demonstration of the pumping possi bilities in the district southeast of Chandler is noted in the completion last week of a new well on section 18, seven miles southeast of here. The pumping plant is the initial move in the development of a half section in that district by the.Bennitt and Grif fen interests, the same paries who have so successfully developed section 5. southwest of Chandler. The new well is equipped with a 70-horsepower Charter engine and has developed an unusually good flow of water. inis nan section is under the new Auxiliary Eastern canal and the plant just installed is only one of many that have been placed in operation in that district during the past year or so by the Charter people. There is every .in dication that with the completion of the new canal system which will supply flood waters at certain seasons of the year to augment water developed by pump that this will be one of the most flourishing and productive districts in the valley. The session of the stock exchange today differed in no essential particular from the listless and "reactionary trend of recent days. Shorts again controlled the market ana exerted fresh pressure against many of the more volatile issues. European affairs, as expressed by the Russo-Polish crisis were once more an overshadowing influence, although this was perhaps less perceptible in the de sultory movements of foreign exchange. Sterling, lire and marks were irregu larly lower, but the Paris rate strength ened. Local monetary conditions provided the bears with fresh ammunition. Money continued to flow to crop cen ters, with consequent depletion or time funds and call loans rose to nine per cent in the final hour after opening at the prevailing rate of seven per cent. Advices from leading commercial ana Industrial centers were mixed, some supporting the views or local financial interests of gradual betterment, necog- nized trade authorities made pointed allusion, however, to the failure of the railroads to come Into the market for new equipment. Prices of stocks were mainly higher at the outset but gave way under sell ing movements. Motors, metals, leather and sugar issues were most frequently singled out by the shorts, oils and ship ping retrieving part of yesterday's losses at the Irregular close. Sales 375,000 shares. ' , Trading in bonds was progressively dull, but embraced an unusual number of issues.. Many active domestic groups. including Liberty bonds, eased slightly but Dominion of Canada- fives of 1931 made up xenerday's two-point loss. Sales (par value) aggregated $7,300,000. Old IT. s. bonds unchanged oil call, CHICAGO. Aug. 18. Trade continued light in wheat, although there was a good shipping business under way. in cash grain and the marKM eased orf with final quotations Vic to c above yesterday's finish, with December $2.39 to $2.39 & and March $2.40. Scattered rains In Nebraska and Kansas and a giving out of the buying power later led to a sharp reaction in corn, with the support lacking on the way down.
