OF I URGED TO EXHIBIT IT Fl PRODUCTS If Maricopa county Is to make any kind of showing at all in the agricul tural exhibits at ti e state fair this year, according to O. E. Fauley, fair commissioner, farmers must come for ward at once wifh ;heir products for exhibit. Coconino nd Yavapai coun ties, he said, are going to come out strons? with larpe exhibits and are al ready planning' on taking home the prizes. This honor, he says, belongs to Maricopa, the la -pest county from the standpoint of cultivation, but 'un less th farmers enter Iheir exhibits the prizes w ill go e sewhere. Farmers are ursed to enter their fruits, vegetables and grains. The commission. Mr. Fauley said, wants anything in the way of agricultural products, whether it is first class or not. The more stuff the. commission has on hand the better the general county exhibit will be. rumpkins, though a larger part of the acreage of the county has been devoted to cot ton. Mr. Fauley believes that enough products are available to make the best exhibit of the state if the farmers will only come forward with it. All farmers are asked by Mr. Fauley to notify him at once at the office of the board of supervisors of their In tention to enter exhibits so that plans can be formulated for the exhibit. Should any of the farmers have some thing to exhibit but do not care to bring it In, Mr. Fauley states if they will leave word at the office of Ihe board of supervisors, the commission will be only too glad to call for th nroduce. This is not palatable doctrine to manu facturers who, like ourselves, are actually facing higher costs today than six' months ago; but it is the, irresistible logic of the situation, and only as it is generally faced and courageously met will the restoration of the economic equilibrium b chastened. When Hare's Motors undertook the oper- ation of the companies under its control it' was fully expected as we took much pains at the time to make the public aware that their increased production under the direc tion of our able engineering staff would eventually reduce costs regardless of the general price trend, but it was not expected that our operations would by this time have reached that stage and, as a matter of fact, thev have not. Sjr i Both output and sales have been greater dur ing the last four months than at any other equivalent period in the history of the Loco mobile and Mercer Companies, but improve ments in both products, plus increasing costs of labor and materials, have more than kept pace with increased production, and except for the obvious duty of collaboration among manufacturers to restore the morale of busi ness, even at considerable temporary sacrifice, there would be no justification whatever for a price reduction at thi3 time. Nevertheless, we are convinced that such procedure is today both sound and constructive that the greatest ultimate profit i to be earned by taking a present loss and it is our earnest hope that before the. period expires within which, under existing conditions, we can afford to maintain the revised price list, our business will have expanded enough and our costs will have dropped enough to warrant our making the new prices permanent. If not, we shall have no recourse but to re vise again and this time upwards. Because of the element of uncer tainty which obscures this point we are for the present accepting orders for delivery at the new scale until January 1st only. PHI mm 1!
